Really, it's only half the city. But it makes for a nice skyline shot of Atlanta.

The spot is on the North Avenue bridge over Interstate 75.

On the Georgia Tech side of the the bridge, on the south side, there's a small hole in the fence. Set up there with a tripod, and you can get something like this.

Patch29 showed me this, and told me how to shoot it.

I went back a couple of times before I got it right.

This is right by The Varsity, by the way, if you have a hankering for an overrated hotdog and some tasty onion rings.

For the educational purposes: what's the EXIF on that?

And you are so going to enter Ch.68 with it, aren't ya? :wink

You're worried about the glare of the car headlights?

How close will you be? Will you be at ground level, or above? What time of day will you shoot?

I'm guessing I was about 60 meters or so from the nearest headlights, and as you can see, there wasn't a problem. It probably helped that I was also above them and shooting from the side. Also, I was not shooting in complete darkness.

So my guess would be that as long as the headlights are not coming directly at your lens, and you shoot while there's still a little bit of light in the sky (my favorite time of day to shoot) you should be OK. :dunno

The sky was shot after the sun was below the horizon, but before all of the light had gone out of the sky. A long exposure, and a little bit of Photoshop tweaking, will draw this lovely blue out of a clear sky.

In real life, the sky doesn't look exactly like this, but if you watch carefully you'll see something close. Be quick, it doesn't last long!

I would think so. You're OK here (http://awais.smugmug.com/photos/57638775-M.jpg), for example.

I'd still recommend not shooting in complete darkness, if you have the choice. The pictures are prettier when there's a bit of light left in the sky.

But I go for a couple of those overrated Varsity hot dogs most every time I'm in Atlanta - something about them . . .

Sid,

Iam interested in the possibilty of using your Atlanta Skyline photo for my website and don't understand all the lingo. What does "PM" stand for?

I am a builder, real estate agent and amateur phototographer.
I am interested in using your photo on the frontpage of my website. I have lived in Atlanta since 1986 and believe that your photo shows a positive vibrant picture of Atlanta. I like your photo better than other ones that I have seen. The picture would be featured on my website with buttons below to search for properties, featured properties, info about the real estate company, etc.

Thanks for your consideration.

Hi Woodster. :wave

Glad you like the image. I sent you a Private Message. It should pop-up automatically when you visit dgrin.

If it doesn't, you have have a pop-up blocker turned on. In that case, just go to "Quick Links" on the banner across the top of this message, second from the right, and click on Private Messages.

I found a time machine site that shows past sites with photos from today.

Here (http://www.atlantatimemachine.com/downtown/dtnorth.htm) is what your shot looked like in 1955.

Sid,

I'm a few years late to finding your post. It's a great shot!! I'll be in Atlanta tomorrow night. Do you know if this shot is still possible? I was in Atlanta in November near this area and couldn't find a way to shoot at the locating I was at due to the plants they put un on the overpass.

Sid has been MIA in Dgrin for several years.

There is a very long, entertaining post in "Mind your business" about this shot.

I suspect Atlanta is still there - the bridge access is across from the Varsity. It's been three years, so they might have fixed the fence - but knowing Atlanta politics, maybe not!

Nik knows more.......
