When we were cleaning out our fish pond and foutain in our back courtyard, we had to take our fish out...and I finally was able to get a good picture of them! the black ones aren't koi...we really don't know what they are...they just appeared - PROMIse - no lie, all of the sudden we started see them! so we feed them just like we do the one we bought! also, we used to have another koi, but she sadly was murdered by a bird (we think). :cry well, enjoy this photo!

Good shot, I like how the fish's body curves along with the curves in its container.

Now I must address your unsubstantiated accusation against some poor bird. Why are folks always blaming birds. The "murderer" could have been a bear, a racoon, a dog, a cat or even a jealous neighbor.

Why are those poor birds always being blamed?

If you have water plants in your backyard pond, there could have been eggs on the plants or in the pots when you brought the plants home. The other possibility is you have a neighbor with an aquarium in their house and they had some fish that just got too big. Your pond looked like an easy answer, less quilt than flushing the fish. Now if they lived near Harry and his fish eating bird . . . well that probably wouldn't have appealed to them either. I sure try to get some shots of the fish in their pond, and you should get another Koi, they are schooling fish and like the company of other Koi.

in reference to the "murdered", i have to chuckle. i post on a forum in minnesota, and lately there have been quite a few photos of koi.....mostly flying overhead in the beak of an osprey, or something similar :):
