There are no grizzlies in the UP, but there are lots of black bears.
I thought Ed might enjoy this shot :):

Thanks guys, Gus, Ed, Nick, Harry.
The bear was found at Oswald's Bear Ranch in the UP north of Newberry Michigan. $10 a car to enter. The typical chain link fence compound, but there are a couple of viewing platforms that allow you to see and shoot over the fence. The bear is a yearling that was just playing with a couple other ursine playmates, running around and up and down trees. I guarentee you cannot escape a black bear by climbing a tree. Not even in your dreams.
Nick, We had a great time - wandering Mackinaw Island, Whitefish Point, the Historical Shipwreck museum, and wandering through the North Woods in general. We all enjoyed your company again.
Harry,I saw very few birds - I was sorely disappointed. A few swans a long way away. 1 GBH a very long way away. I had hoped to see some raptors, or aquatic birds, or even little birds. It did not happen.
I did get a shot of a golden eagle from 500 yards maybe, but it was not satisfying.
The Cedar Waxwing was shot with Nick's 70-200 as I was not expecting to see birds while shooting the Lower Falls of the Tahquamenon River. They were eating red berries from the trees.

Well I had a great time as well. Thanks again for inviting me. I am jealous of your Waxwing shot though. Yours came out much nicer than any of mine did. Just proves that I've still got lots to learn. See you on the next trip :rofl.

I have to disagree with Gus, I don't think he looks at all afraid of you. More like, "I'll bet that black thing that guy is holding would be fun to play with, I wonder if tastes good too?"
