I picked an older picture and re-post-processed it to make it look better.
I think it's not bad for a budget Nikkor 70-300mm ($120,00) on a D70.

Very well composed Dick, the bird is nice and sharp. This would have been a nice one to use some fill flash for the bird.

Thanks Frankie.
My knowledge and documentation do not extend any further than that it is a humming bird.

I like it. He looks a Little ruffled, almost like he is wet, but I think that makes for an interesting picture. I have never seen one of the brown colored ones, mine all seem to have a greenish coloration.
I received an Email from a Keith Rankin, and he takes photos of hummingbirds too. He has some beautiful shots and maybe you would like to look at his gallery (http://www.pbase.com/keithrankin/hummingbird_a_day_gallery). I really the like the shots of the birds sitting on his (or somebody's) hands and fingers.
The ones around my house love to play in the sprinkler. I used to have an isolating sprinkler and they would perch and wait for it to swing through its arc and then they would chatter and fly around in the water. When is swung back the other direction they would perch and wait for the water to return.
