Caught this bird along the river walk in San Antonio. It was snatching small fish from the "river." Can anyone ID this bird?

I'm going to make a really wild guess here just for the fun of it! I really don't know but...he looks like a night heron and he's blue and purple and maybe some other colors. How about a tri-colored night heron???? Is there such a bird. :rofl :dunno But meanwhile, it's a beautiful bird and a beautiful shot! Nicely composed, pretty background and I like his "pose". :thumb

Nice one. I really like the detail. I went to your site, but you don't have the exif data available on this one. May I ask how close you were to this bird, and how long a lens you used. I'm relatively new to bird photography and I am trying to get a feel for the distances and the lenses being used.

Nice capture of a green heron. They can be tough to shoot because thye are very shy.
