Congrats on your new lens, Antonio. How do you like it so far? Have you been handholding it, or were these tripod mounted shots?

I bought I monopod but I'll send it back to the shop.
As a matter of fact I already had a tripop and I put the legs together, wrapped them in plastic bag because of the sand and use it as a monopod.
With one advantage: I can carry the hole as if it was a gun, on the shouder. :):
The environment on the beach is very wild and agressive. There is sand in the air and salt ...
So far, I feel it is a great lens. Yesterday, sunday, I made some shots and I can see the lens is very sharp. Well, for that price ... :):
On the other way I felt it is very little to have 200*1.6=360mm. Have to get the 1,4 multiplier ... I'll have then 360*1.4= 504 mm :clap
One thing it did not worked very well was the focusing system I used.
As the surfers were always moving I used the AI Servo.
I was expecting better results.
I'll have to try the setting in the middle, the which moves the focus point when the object moves... :):
I've been reading a little about photographing sports and still learning...
Thank you for your comment.
Sorry Holland lost the game against Portugal ...:huh
Regards. :thumb

I was taught by my fellow dgrinner (hi, Michiel!) and learned from my own bitter experience that you always have to use continuos drive (high, if you have 30D) when shooting on AI/Servo, since the very first shot is amost always OOF (out of foucs), but the consequent ones are OK.
In fact, when shooting any type of action continuous drive is a good idea, since it helps you to catch that precise moment... You just need to get used to the idea of starting to shoot before something happens :D (know your game!:-)

HTH Nikolai !
Great tip. Great tip ! Thank you. :thumb
Then, I was doing half well. I was in Servo but not on Continuous.
As a matter of fact I changed from Continuous to One Shot because my wife asked me to as she took the camera. :):
I've got the lesson.
Herewith a fantastic shot with this lens. (Of course, it's too yellowish, etc..) For my level I assume it as very good. With flash ! Bounced.

Be sure you are in AI Servo, and activate all the focus points (dots), and pick up your subject with the middle dot, press the shutter button to activate the focusing, and as long as you keep it down, and track your subject it will keep it in focus, even if your subject wanders off center. It does a pretty darn good job, and I have great results with it at motocross races. The first shot will be good too.....as long as you are anticipating where it will be. When you activate all the dots, nothing will blink (turn red) when you focus by the way.
Nice shots too.

Fantastic help.
Man, we all like to help each other.
That's very nice in a selfish society.
Yours even more annonymous than the one where I live.
