See if you can guess what this is? Feedback on my photos is always welcome. This was shot with my standby camera - a Canon A70. My D100 didn't make it on this walk.

:dunno Fairly thick metal. A hole to the left. A gap to the lower right where one of the glass studs is missing. Blue sky behind it, visible through the holes and the the glass studs. Some kind of lighting fixture?

You are correct. So, either you are really a good guesser, have a lighthouse fetish, or found my account on smugmug? In any case, yes, these prisms that you see are part of the entire lighthouse lens assembly. We toured the Point Sur Light when out in CA over the Xmas holidays.

If you get a chance, make your way down toward Big Sur on a Sat or Sun morning (10 a.m. I think) and take the tour. While the tour is fun and informative, the best part is that you get the opportunity to walk up onto the big rock that is Point Sur. There is no other way at this time to get up there legally. The views from the rocks are mondo cool.

The prism in my picture goes along the floor of the main room where the old fresnel lens used to sit. I'm not sure exactly how this works, but the prisms assisted in some way with improving the efficiency of the light.

Many/Most of the prisms are missing. The non-profit that is currently refurbishing the lighthouse and all the other buildings sell these prisms for something like $1K each. One goes into a hole and you get to keep one for yourself. As you can see there are still many missing. Kind of a cool way to fundraise (my wife works for a non-profit as well).

If you ever get out to Monterey area in CA, it's worth it to do the 3 hours weekend morning tour. We were also able to spot many whales heading south but no good pics.

Fish: Thanks for coming clean. I would never has suspected a thing except for all those 1000's of people on ADV Rider who keep calling you a lying, scheming, cheating, bastard. That was the tip off... :-)

Here's a clarifying photo to show where these things sit. My wife is on the steps coming down from the small room at the very top where the lens used to sit. The actual lens is down in Cambria for some reason and they can't get it back.

Looks like it was used to light the stairs - some boats use prisms in the bow to light the interior also.
