in the past I've used a variety of ways to carry my camera equipment. however, time is catching up with me, and I can no longer carry stuff which puts a lot of weight on my shoulders, it's too painful and damaging. can anyone suggest sources for bags and straps which provide good lumbar support? it doesn't necessarily have to be a CAMERA bag per se. I would really appreciate the advice. thanks.

You may want to check out ThinkTank:

http://thinktankphoto.com/ttp_product_ProMod.php

or Lowepro: http://www.lowepro.com/Products/Beltpacks/modular/

Also, a roller bag is not out of the question, though not as convenient:

hi, Art,

I have a canon eos 20D. I normally carry that (the lens that came w the camera), an extra lens, (28-135 zoom) CFlash cards ,xtra batteries, cable release. in other words, not much equipment. I have a super lightweight tripod that I wd like to have with me sometimes. I wd like to be able to access the camera easily. it wouldn't be bad if there were a harness that would work for this.

normally I wd ride a bike to my destination but I can't do that right now.

cmason,

thanks, these look interesting. the lowepro might work if the lumbar support is good.

are you familiar enough w the thinktank stuff to know about lumbar support with their belts?

The LOWE-PRO ORION belt pack (lumbar) would work great for you I am sure.....the lumbar support is great.....I use mine in conjunction with another backpack when out on my motorcycle so it is in front and I have quick access to all my gear.....and I no longer use a neck strap on my cameras but now I use a Bino-System harness ($14.99 at Wal-Mart Sporting Goods), actually made for binoculars but it sure relieves the neck strain from carrying my camera with a 70 - 210 f2.8 all day.
