And let me tell you, that's one noisy city. Maybe it's because I didn't get any sleep last night. Maybe I was cranky. But that town is just plain loud.

Oh, and B&H has a very disappointing selection of camera backpacks. Hmmph. Had to buy a shoulder bag instead. And Patch is tipping me towards a rather tasty Gitzo tripod.

Working where I work you see aborted landings all day.

Fred i was sitting (down the back) waitting to take off at Heathrow & we ended up there in the same spot for over an hour. I got bored & since i had a perfect view of the main runways...i started timing the take offs & landings. A plane left ever 1.05 sec & one landed every 57 sec. Give or take 2-5 seconds either side i had no idea they used such close timing.

I wondered about that. I could see at least four more lined up behind him.

On a cold winter night we could count 12 lights lined up on the runway.
Had my fair share of close calls working out there too it's way too busy.

Yep I not sure what separation Cincy uses but it's close.
I had planes land on the same runway while we were out there working
One was close but I jumped in my truck drove it to the side

You have to really keep your eyes open all the time
I work on the airfield and that's the only place I work.

Most close calls are miss commutation between controller and pilots and sometimes ground traffic (us)

That explains it. I couldn't figure out why they weren't better lined up, they seemed to move from one side of the centerline to the other. I guess they scrubbing speed and creating separation. Thanks for the explanation.

I've actually been to fields where there were about 4 (smaller) planes a minute landing and takeing off, it's crazy... The bigger planes are limited as far as how much space and time there has to be between them. And you can always choose to go-around, but it really is a last resort really since it will mess up alot of things when it is buse like that.
