So far the weather forecast looks promising for this weekend. I'm still trying to figure out what I will do myself, but I would like to take my new macro lens to Muir Woods sometime.

Let me know how the Half Moon Bay ride works out. I've not been down there in awhile.

Buck's sits on hwy 84 which leads to the ocean. Actually, one of the
prettiest places it goes through is Niles Canyon. The opposite direction.

84 winds through the town of Woodside to the intersection of 35 at a
spot known as "4 corners" or just Alice's by the local motorcycle crowd.
From there, it decends towards the ocean through La Honda and San
Gregorio before ending at Hwy 1. The ocean.

Along the way, you'll pass through redwood trees and grass land.
There are a few photo opps along the way.

A better route to the ocean might be South on 35 (from 84) past the
Russian Ridge, Long Ridge and Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserves
(www.openspace.org (http://www.openspace.org)) to Hwy 9. 9, also a local motorcycle favorite,
leads through the rural towns of Boulder Creek and Felton. 9 takes you
past the Brookdale Lodge. There's a Ghost Story with the lodge.
The hwy eventually ends at the Northern end of Santa Cruz--wonderful
photo opps in Santa Cruz. One of my favorite stops in SC is the Surf
Museum. You can hop on 1 and head North and back to 84 enjoying
many an opportunity along the coast. A nice stop would be Waddell
Creek. Here the kite surfers enjoy the waves. On your way back up
84, be sure to stop at the barn. Great place in the afternoon sun.

From Buck's to the Beach via 84, allow about 1.5 hours driving time (round
trip).

The "alternate" is about 3 hours driving time round trip from 84 & 35.

Thursday evening would be doable.

I've never explored this area, and sounds like there are some good photo ops if the weather holds out.

I drop my girlfriend off at the airport thursday afternoon, and pick up a friend friday late morning. I'm in, and will have a 4 door vehicle we can use.

I would like to meet you and Andy if everyone is available. If its raining, maybe we can get dinner and drinks somewhere.

There is so much to see in this area. I'm reading a piece in a local AS
newsletter about Ano Nuevo State Park. I've been once maybe but it
should be a great place to go back to with all this new info.

Also, along Skyline, there are numerous places to stop and walk. One of
my favorites is just North of Page Mill Road and is called Windy Hill. There
are a few lakes that dot the area too. Not to mention views of the ocean
on a clear day.

I was curious if you were going to give any feedback on entries for the challenge 24. I thought I remembered you saying at the end of challenge 23 that you dont have time to go through and give feedback for each shot at the end of the challenge as this takes up alot of your time. I also thought I remembered you saying that you would give feedback into our individual challenge posts during the challenge. Is that going to happen with future challenges or am I not remembering correctly. Please dont think im saying you are doing anything wrong. I just never saw that happen with challenge 24 and I know alot of us would benefit from your feedback. If you dont have the time to do either though i completely understand. Thanks.

I should probably get a nice book on the area. Most of what I have found is by accident, which is fun too. I do feel like I'm missing the less popular areas just because nobody talks about them.

I'm a member in a local camera group. It started out as a D70 group, but we love to have anyone involved. The goal is to make new friends and find new spots to get out & shoot. So far its been a lot of fun & the people are great. There is usually an outing once a weekend depending on weather and peoples schedule.

The pumpkin patch picture came from a group outing using a borrowed lens (Nikon 12-24).

Maybe the mods want to move this to another thread?

Anyway, to better answer Andy's question, I wanted to look at something
this morning. Just outside the town proper is Portola Road. It's a short
road that connects Sand Hill and Mountain Home Rd. It has nice tree cover
and excellent morning light. To one side is a small vineyard with golden leaves
and a nice golden morning light.

Also checked out Caņada Road this afternoon. Caņada parallels Crystal Springs
Reservoir. There's a small home located on the edge of the lake. Used, I think,
by the caretaker. Afternoon light is nice along the lake.

Sorry, no sample shots.

Oh, and Sam, it was great to meet you today!
