NVM I took a guess and tried your dgrin name. But nickname.smugmug.com please, in all requests for help, we NEED that info :D

I was able to buy this flower from your site, no trouble? If you can point to specific galleries you are having difficulty with, we'll help you. Also, please let us know what browser you are using, version, and what platform (mac, pc, etc).

Safari was also showing the cart as being empty on my site, even after you add a photo. Happened Tuesday morning 7am EST.

I've had this happen to me when a customer didn't have cookies enabled. I've now put a "cookies must be enabled" notice on my print pages-- but it would be great if smugmug offered that error message up instead of "your shopping cart is empty". Or even better-- make it so cookie-less print ordering is possible!

A lot of modern browsers have this feature, so I could see where this could be a problem for some. I had to enable cookies for "all sites", which I really dont like doing. See:

Were you going through a vanity URL?

If so this can happen as the browser will see www.XYZ.com as the originating site but smugmug.com as the site placing the cookie and therefore will refuse it.

Yes, it was a vanity url setup using the preferred CNAME method. This does seem like it could happen a lot of times to people. Many people use a vanity url & also have that option selected in their browser. Im pretty sure Safari has it selected by default when you first use it.

Yep, this is the problem. I used your site and confirmed this with another KHTML-based browser (Konqueror) whose base code is very similar to Safari. KHTML browser users (e.g. Mac/ Safari or Linux/ Konqueror) must allow all cookies for the SM cart to work.

I use the same settings (originating site cookies only) in Firefox but SM shopping cart works fine for me. I am not sure why, I would think that it would reject the cookie based on the name but it might be smart enough to realize that the names point to the same site?

Looks like we are uncovering a nice little "bug" here.

Browsers so far that I have checked that has the cart problems when "accept cookies from only sites I navigate to" is activated in the preferences/options menu & where a vanity url is used. (You may have to choose the option, then re-open the browser to see the effects).

-OmniWeb (Mac)
-Safari (Mac)
-Opera (Mac)

Quite a little list there with some big name browsers.

OmniWeb (Mac) and Safari (Mac) are both KHTML-based.

Opera has the same bad behavior (or good?) on Linux.
Try FF on Mac to isolate it to the browser vs. OS.
I now get an error message asking me to enable cookies. :clap
"Please enable cookies for this page. Here's how."

One possible solution would be for SM to place the cookie AFTER redirection to the smugmug site. Then it would not violate the "originating site rule". The cart could then redirect the client back to the referring site to select additonal pictures and the cookie would remain as long as the browser was open.

That was one of the first ones I tried. It went through with no problems. Didnt even ask me to enable "all" cookies. FF on Mac is :thumb

Hmm, I just added a new gallery and the buy button isn't working. I need for the client to be able to purchase online. Any clues?

It doesn't appear to be a "cookies" issue to me.

Nora, your images are PNGs - our labs only print from JPGs.
Our supported files: http://www.smugmug.com/help/upload-photos

Upload JPGs and all will be well :D

I hope this helps!

I just ran into this same issue with FF 3.09 on Mac OS. My (the) default setting is to not accept third party cookies. No warning message was displayed, just an empty cart.

Hi Mark,

If you use your custom domain, you have to accept third party cookies. Otherwise the cart can't work. That's because the cart works on secure.smugmug.com .

I understand that from a technical prospective. I'm a little concerned that when it did not work the only symptom was an empty cart. I'm not sure how Smugmug could provide some more guidance or a "what to do if" screen, but I have to assume that some people would just give up after trying to add a picture in 4 or 5 times and getting no feedback as to why it is not working.
