Rentglass is talked about a lot on FM. I have heard nothing but positives about them. It is 2 people who own/ run it and they fund it out of their pocket so its fairly small and popular lenses are rarely in stock.

you're gonna fall in love man...

you can't just rent an L glass...because you're gonna hate having to send it back... and then you're just gonna end up buying it.:D

yeah. Im working on some L by the end of the summer. As for the lenses in stock you have to be quick. I got the email saying it was in about 2 weeks ago and went to rent it and bam....already gone. Sign up for the email alerts and be fast. I will report on my experience probably after the shootout. :thumb

Woah.

These guys are seriously screwing themselves.

those prices are the regular DAY rates at most local places.

They should up their prices a bit. If all the lenses are always out, then their pricing is too low, considering the demand exceeds supply.

Sowwy!

*zips mouth shut*

But seriously. If this were available to Canada, I'd pre-book the weeks of the 2 big dance shows I shoot each year.

Thanks for the site. Too bad 98% of ths stuff is unavailabe. Hopefully they will soon get more lenses as the site grows. I'd like to rent of of those fisheye lenses.

Quick question. When they say "Your rental period begins when your order is delivered by the shipper and ends when the shipper receives your return package." Does that mean the day that your order arrives at your house, or the day that they send it out from their place? The 100mm macro is in and I want to rent that for a week.

From the email i got they estimate when it gets to your house and then its from that time. I think you lose a day or two at the end. But hey if it goes over its like 5-10 bucks or something.

:uhoh :uhoh :scratch Where are the serious "L" teles? :dunno I don't see a 300mm f/2.8, 400mm f/2.8, 500mm f/4 or the 600mm f/5.6. Those might be something worth renting before buying. <still looking for a rental place>

From the FAQ

Do you plan to carry the very long fast lenses such as the Canon 400mm f/2.8L? Size, weight, and shipping insurance challenges prevent us from being able to offer such lenses at the level of value we like to offer.

I shall patiently await the Nikon rental department's opening....

This strikes me as a very new market that could explode. If one had a small forture, you could make some serious penny renting out lenses like that. Of course I'd charge a bit more, but yeah... If only I were 20 years older with a nice fat savings account, I'd jump on that bandwagon!

$70 for 3 weeks???? At those prices they will never have lenses in stock!! You could use it for a week and rent it out to someone else and recoup your costs!!! Sounds too good to be true, to me! :D

Just having rented and returned a lens from rentglass.com, I thought I would reply.

They use USPS shipment tracking (both ways) and the rental period begins the day the post office delivers it to your house. Mine was delivered on Friday and I had to have it back to the post office 7 days later, the following Friday. Your rental ends when it has been accepted by the post office.

Anyway, I had a very positive experience with rentglass.com. I'm definitely going to consider them again when I need a speciality lens or just want to try out a lens I'm considering buying.

They don't accept reservations but you can sign up to be notified when a specific lens is in stock. This is how I got the lens I wanted to try out, the Sigma 18-200mm for Canon.

As you would expect, at a much higher rental cost.......
