There is an online camera shop here in Australia that is offering the D50 with standard lens for $975.00 (all dollars australia) or the D50 with 18/70 mm lens at $1379.00. A savings on the lens of about $200.00 if purchased separately. the store is also selling the D70 with standard 18/70 lens for $1810.00 but is bundled with your choice of giveaways

Package 1 Contains
1gb Sandisk ultra II CF Card
67mm Hoya UV Filter
USB Card reader - Compact Flash

Package 2 Contains
1GB Compact Flash Card
Lowepro Photorunner Case
USB Card reader - Compact Flash

Package 3 Contains
512MB Compact Flash Card
Nikon EN-EL3a Spare Battery
Lowepro EX-160 Carry Case

My question would it be worth spending the extra $400.00 + to go for the D70 and which package would serve me best. Thanks in advance for any opinions/help offered

I'd say package 2, and get them to replace the card reader with a battery.

You can use the on-camera download at first, then later buy a cheap card reader at a computer store.

Also, Package 1, but get them to replace the UV with a battery.
