Hi folks........ I know many of you are interested in Macro.
Recently while over at Fred Miranda's site I came across a wonderful article written and photographed by Thom Hicks.

It's titled "It Makes No Difference" and Thom has put in a lot of time and effort to show folks Macro shots done with many different combinations of Lenses, Extention Tubes, Reversed Lenses etc.

I believe you will be amazed at Thom's post, and surprised at some of the lenses he actually uses to do his Macro Shots....... Skippy (Australia) :D

Wow! Thanks for posting that. I would have never guessed that some of those were only reversed 50's!

:scratch The link to how he mounted his 50mm reverse direct to the camera is broken for me; anybody else? The link he posted: http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/378097. Everything I can find on Goolge is for an FD camera, not an EOS one like I have :(

Great stuff though - I want to try it :D

He does take amazing pics with whatever he uses. One comment though- he doesn't mention the differences in focus distance. With a reversed 50mm you will be focusing about 1" in front of the lens whilst with a 180macro and Tcon you will be at least 12" away if not further- does make a difference to skittish bugs. That is essentially what you are paying for in a macro lens.
