I'll post some more as I go through them today and tomorrow!

All shot with a Canon 1D, Canon 300f2.8L at ISO200-320 and all night shots shot at between ISO 1000-3200.handheld

I also have some Monterey Historics that I will share with you all too...

I've been very busy, so my apologies for not "being here"

Andrew :)

wow. Awesome shots mac! I lovvvve the 911 at the bottom. Really cool.

Those first few shots, I'm wondering how you managed to keep such clarity in the cars while keeping the street at a zoom. Besides moving with your subject, do you have any pointers for achieving this?

Or... am I completely fooled by photoshopping here??

WOW. That ISO 3200 can really hold up on the noise. Sheeesh, I get more noise at ISO 200 with my 828. :huh

They'll be more.. ;)

Do you mean the motion blur? Not sure what you mean "while keeping the street at a zoom" If you let me know I'll explain.

No jiggerypokery used..

The only use for PS for me is to adjust colour (minimal as images our of the "old 1D" come out pretty well set for use. I'll adjust colour/saturation and may sharpen a little, crop possibly, but that's it. More often than not if the subject is at an angle that's how it was shot. When you have a large amount of images (and you get a lot of keepers with a 1D tbh) PS'ing is that last thing you want to do.

I was quite surprised myself considering it was really dark and although I manually focussed most of the really dark shots, the AF still managed to lock onto the Audi side numbers pretty quick.

The noise in the really dark shots seems to add something for me.

Zippy, very cool stuff! I too like the porch that's off the track. Looks like
he handled it pretty well though.

Going to Monterey next week for the Aquarium's anniversery party. Might
have to stay overnight.

I love your tilted-camera shots and the interesting close-crops you get. Sometimes the most interesting shots have only part of car in the photo. I'm learning a lot just looking at your photos. Thanks for sharing!

Zippy,

Your motorsports shots are great. Are you going to be at the MotoGP race at Laguna next July?

Don't have my tickets yet, but I'll be there. It might be interesting to shoot the event and compare the difference in what and how we capture the event.

Great captures of fast moving cars. The 1D rocks!! As does its new brother...
The Canon 300mm f2.8 L is a lovely lens and I suspect really helps the low light shots for AF. You are not using the IS version? Do you have any experience with the 400mm f4 L IS DO or the 500mm f4 L IS lenses?
Are you doing all your shooting handheld or do you use a Wimberly gimbel type of tripod head? It seems that with a track confining the known path of cars that a gimbel head mught be very useful as opposed to handholding.

Years ago I watched Roger Pensky race at Leguna Seca - what a great track.

Thank you.....

I still prefer the old 1D, simply beucase I love the effect the sensor gives to images. I will get the new 1D or I may plump for the new 1Ds and as such I haven't decided...

Yes, it is the 300f2.8 IS and all are handheld, or in the case of a couple of the really dark shots I used the top of the fence (ssssh, don't tell anyone...).

But the tendonitis is catching up with me...

As for the other lenses the only other lens I have used was a 600 and that's a beast....

The 300 coupled with a 1.4TC is very useful, hence if I was going to make a jump it would be to a 600IS.

But I have to get more work first..!

:rofl

Thanks man...

Sadly no. Our dg hasn't been too well so Sunday I spent all day going through the 3000 images I shot on Saturday and Friday.......

I did see the race this weekend from that gorgeous track in Birmingham (was it?). Gonna have to try and get there!
