Image of the Very Large Array (VLA) west of Socorro, NM. These receivers are aimed at far away galaxies. Was passing by this place late in afternoon. Liked the feeling created by the light and the clouds. Taken with Canon A80.

Wow those things are huge. I really like the composition of the photo because all of the satellites are in rule of thirds and I like the space in the middle. Nice Job.

They always look great & you got them well. We have a heap of them about 10 hours south & i often think about photographing them some time.

I've always wanted to see these. I have driven down 25 many times, but never remembered to go scouting.

I'm now trying to find them on Google Earth, but the resolution in that area is poor. Where exactly is this place in relation to Socorro?

They are located about 60 miles west of Socorro, off Highway 60 (between Datil and Magdelena. In the quadrant G-3 on your Rand McNally.

I agree about the lighting. The array is huge. Several movies have pano
shots of the array and damn, does it look big--don't the antennas
move to change the overall "reach"?

The array of movable antenas are on three 20KM-long railroad tracks, arranged at 120º. Very impressive on any scale, including a desktop.

I can hardly ride through New Mexico without passing by the VLA. Been there several times and always enjoy it.
