After Gus had finished with the big surf it came down our way, and like flies to doggy doo the surfers were out to greet it.

Do we go in or not?

Nice shots.:thumb Your weather sure looks better than mine. I'm curious, do you take any extra precautions, against the elements, with your eqiupment while around that ocean spray?:dunno

Must say that I don't take any precautions except that if there is a lot of sea spray I won't even bother taking the camera out there. Apart from that just a clean or two of the UV filter and clean the camera when I'm done (just a wipe over).

Thanks for droppimg by :):

Very nice series of shots. Sure must be a lot warmer in your surf than ours. Never see anyone in bathing suits surfing -- wet suits, full ones! We have ships plying their way up our coast too, but they are usually more spread apart. The surfers sure look happy though!

Newcastle is a major coal export region so the ships are all waiting off the coast for their turn to come into the port and fill up. I have counted as many as 30 ships sitting off the coast.
The water is starting to cool off as we are now into Autumn but I say "God bless any girl that wantd to slip on the bikini for a surf" :wink

Go fossil fuels, Go bikini girls:rofl

I love the first and the third.

I had forgotton how pretty newcastle beaches were. I haven't been there in such a long time. But I do remember all the ships. Last time I was there I think BHP was stil open:huh

Good series LD :thumb

I too love the 1st shot (and the last one) :clap

Just something to think about. Cropping a bit off the right on the 1st and last shots (yes you will have to crop some off the top too) and using the "fog" USM technique (20%, 60 radius, 1 threshhold), to "clarify" the BG on the 1st shot. I did just that (and added some saturation) and for sure the first one is a wallhanger, IMHO :thumb

I apologize in advance, if my suggestion is unwanted :dunno I realize this isn't the whipping post :rofl Jus' tryin' ta help :D

The first and third are good shots. The third would be better with a slower
shutter speed and less spray. I have a couple of those contemplating shots
as well. I like how they portray the surfer as he or she contemplates conditions.

Yes, I did save it. It's just one option LD. IMO, it made the surfers bigger, cut out some of the uninteresting right side, gave the waves and ships more contrast and color and as I mentioned in my reply to your PM, really accentuates what looked to be sweet morning light :D
