Looks like this will be very useful for remote flashes though. I just built a pair of clamps for my remote SB800s, perhaphs I'll pick up one of these for that application. Kinda pricey at $22 from B&H though....

DANGER...DANGER Will Robinson:lol4

Too bad it's not as strong as a Gorilla could be quite handy! :dunno

I handled one of those. It's fine for an occasional usage with an extremely light (sub)compact. However, frequent usage would quickly loosen the friction-based ball links.
Suffice to say it started to loosen up after just a half an hour of playing with it in the office. :dunno
Makes a very nice addition for any gadgeterian's desk, though..:):

i have 2 'pods. one for the point and shoot, and one for the d70 - examples:

i know the pic with the d70 is a bad shot, but its actually pretty sturdy. the site quotes the slr size 1.75 pounds.

here is their shot -

their site www.joby.com (http://www.joby.com) says they have one for a flash coming out soon too.

These have been around for years... I thought they were popular. Looks like Lowepro will acquire Joby (http://the-digital-picture.com/News/News-Post.aspx?News=1155&Title=Joby-Joins-Lowepro-as-a-DayMen-Company).

Probably because it's unusual that someone bumps a half decade old thread just to add a useless post. :D

Not useless, just incomplete. GorillaPod now has 2 models which support heavier loads:

SLR-Zoom, 3kg/6.5 lbs
Focus, 5kg/11 lbs

I have 1 of each of these. They are very useful if you are creative mounting them. I use them for remote flash a lot. Hanging off a snowboard, a tree, just using to hold a flash higher with your hand. I use the Nikon flash stand/ plate right into the 1/4-20 screw in the top of the gorillapod. Or mounted to a QR plate and ballhead.
