Just found this site today and decided to join since I love photography. I guess I can start off by introducing myself and saying a bit about me. My name is Steven and I live in San Diego. I'm 15 and own a Canon Powershot A80. (I wish I could have the Canon EOS 300D) I'm also in ACE (American Coaster Enthusiasts) and you can see a lot of pictures on my smugmug site of coasters.
So here are a couple of night photos I took at Belmont Park.

Here is my best shot. It was just about closing and the station was empty.

Here is one of Chaos. One of my favorite flat rides.

Chaos during mid-ride.

After closing. The Giant Dipper and Vertical Plunge (a kiddie ride)
That's it for now. You can see all of my Belmont Park night photos (even the bad ones!) here http://redbull.smugmug.com/gallery/230123/1

I've always wanted to take a camera on a ride. Bolt it to something and take
a few long exposures.
Nice pix!

And I've been wanting to shoot a whirlygig (or whatever they're called) on a long exposure, so that it looks like a solid disk. Very cool.

Any more suggestions? I'm going to Belmont Park tonight and I would love to have some tips for (better) night shooting. I just have an A80, so I can't shoot raw or anything like that.:(:

Nice work Redbull :thumb
I like the 1st one also. Having no people in the pic is perfect, IMO.
I remember the good ol' days at BP and the Plunge. Wayyyyyyyy before you were born....lol

Here's a shot I'd enjoy seeing. If you have a tripod, a shot of the rollercoaster. Have everything rock solid, the only thing moving is the blur of the rollercoaster. If possible, shoot facing the coaster, have it coming roughly towards the camera, sorta three-quarters. Picking the right shutter speed might be tricky. It depends upon your zoom factor, based on my experience. But I would think less than 1/100th and more than 1/20th. :dunno Ideally, you'd get a blur, but the people would still be recognizalbe as people. You'd need a tripod to make this shot work, especially when the light starts going.

Yes, I do have a tripod. Thanks for that idea, wxwax. I'll definately experiment with different angles and shutter speeds.:thumb
