Your monitor is too dark or doesn't have enough contrast. The frame is entirely filled with almond wood smoke.

Patchy, we ought to post that contrast chart in a sticky somewhere, along with a post on how to set up your monitor for maximum viewing pleasure.

:nono Not even when contrast and brightness are pushed all the way to the max. I can see all but the last three black stripes if I keep brightness at max setting. Unfortunately, my skin starts to peel off and my eyeballs burst.

It might just be possible that there are a lot of crappy monitors out there. Just maybe.

geez waxy, your monitor really must be hosed bad. Fishwife has a nasty old Dell (sony) trinitron that needs to be replaced...it's super yellow and she's getting gun arcs, but I can discern the difference on that POS.

I recommend you buy a new monitor before buying a new camera :)

Nah, waiting for the current auctions to cycle through. I missed a good deal last week, but it was too early to bid, I was still evaluating the field. Now I have a better idea of what I can expect to pay, and will wait for a new crop of monitors to go on sale.

At some you must get tired of shooting that poor bottle of beer. Try something creative with it.

I like it. How did you do it? Filter?Nope, the old fashioned way. Cheap wide angle 18-55 EF-S lens at 18mm. I think the cheap is the functional word there. Then I just make sure I put the important piece way in the foreground, and then the background (the further away the better) gets all distorted.

Sorry for the long time no response. Damn thesis writing got in the way.

The junco pic sucked so bad that I decided to just merge the bird thread into fishwrap. Keep "post your best shots" pure.

Sharks: [reciting] I am a nice shark, not a mindless eating machine. If I am to change this image, I must first change myself. Fish are friends, not food.

Welcome seamaiden!

Thank you Mr. Fish. My av is a seamonkey, a term of endearment. Did you know that, in comparison with most other fish we keep, sharks are actually the wusses of the sea? Yep, that's right!

Anyone here keep fish? (No, not you.)

I have 2 setups. 55gal fresh and 36gal marine. It used to be the other way but when I moved last I swicthed to cause less movement and stress to the marine inhabitants. They all did well.

Very good to hear. I've got an article outlined on moving fish for the hobbyist. Need to get some shots to fill it out, and it's going to be a two-parter. I just wish that stupid Parson Gas would call me back! I know exactly how to get an O2 setup for commercial situations, but I have NO idea how the hobbyist would gain access to oxygen without either getting a Rx from a doctor (I'm assuming big bucks, nor would any self-respecting physician write such a Rx for shipping fish), or transporting everything to the LFS (local fish shop) to get their O2 for bagging.

Got any shots of your tanks? Over on reefs.org we have a whole section (and contests) dedicated to photography of the wet stuff.
