Can I change the image titles

I'm looking at this keywording monster and wondering if I can change the names of my files that have already been uploaded. If so will these NEW names get added to the keywords list?
I know the keywords are generated automatically from the image names, but if I add key words under the customization menu they do not show in my list.
I looked but did not find the answer to these questions. If I missed it please just point I'll read it.

Smugmug uses the filename as stored on your computer as a keyword for convenience. That file name is also stored as a part of the information about the image; however, once that image is uploaded to Smugmug it is given a unique and unchangeable filename by Smugmug. You cannot change the smugmug file name or the file name information that smugmug has with the image. You can change/remove the filename that appears in the image keywords.

If you don't see keywords, make sure you are not putting keywords on protected or private galleries since those galleries will not use them.
