Awsome shots Thomas. Great lighting and exposures. The second shot has great comp and lines in it. I like how the wings draw a line to the neck and head to the branch.

Very nice Thomas! :thumb Great timing on the second shot, but I like the first one as well. Were those with a 2xTC? It says the Focal Length was 420. Or maybe I'm reading it wrong.

Cool shots, Thomas!

My osprey is back, too, I think. Drove by kind of fast (husband driving) yesterday.

I thought about going to shoot him this AM, but all my equipment is in my husband's van from work, and he didn't want to leave this morning. But I knew if I waited someone else would do the osprey. My shots were pathetic last yr, and I would not expect them to improve much this year.

How did you focus with the 2X on there? When I use the 400, focusing becomes an issue, too. I have the thing taped, it is a Canon 1.4Xs, Canon does not go to AF easily with a TC. And no go in the 400 w a 2Xs. As far as I know. I do not manually focus easily. Were you doing manual?

My osprey comes and goes from a nest put way up in the air. On a pole. So he is a good ways. I am not fond of that bird, and I am sure he is not fond of me. He is probably on guard for my car now! He recognized it last year. He would circle til I left or things got desperate. He came down with some pretty ratty looking fish by the time we were through playing our waiting game.

Thanks all. I've got lots more to pp. I'll post some more later. Steve, you are correct, the FL should be 600mm. I'll edit my post.

How did you focus with the 2X on there?

I have a 1 series body, so I have autofocus even with the 2xTC on board. It slows the AF a little, I think, but nothing dramatic. I used AI servo with the center AF point selected.

Great timing. That 2X isn't hurting you at all.

Very well done, Thomas!! Nice lines in the 2nd image.

That 300 + a 2x is a nice combo isn't it??

Thanks Path. It is a nice combination. I have been very pleased with the sharpness so far. It has calmed down my lust for the 500 f/4 for now, but one of these days I'm going to have to break down and get a REAL bird lens. The 300 2.8 with the 1.4 and 2.0 TC is a very versatile setup I must say.
