Several icons of photography have passed on in the last couple years. It is sad to loose all of these great photographers. I have admired their work for years.

Photographer Richard Avedon is seen in this May 1979 photo. Richard Avedon, the revolutionary photographer who redefined fashion photography as an art form while achieving critical acclaim through his stark black-and-white portraits of the powerful and celebrated, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004 in New York. He was 81.

Funny how some of the 'greats' can leave you cold. So it is with Avedon. I'm obviously not sophisticated enough to appreciate the quality of his work. Pity.

Here's a link (http://www.marilyn-online.de/avedon.html) to a page with a lot of his images of Marilyn Monroe.
