whatever that is the bird is perched on looks way oversharpened, as in, very harsh. don't notice anything harsh on the bird, but may want to check his features as well on a larger size.

so, basically, before I scrolled down, I thought it was the best bird shot i've ever seen! :lol3

Or Look of Constipation :rofl

Seriously DR, this is a sweet shot. I liked the bird a whole lot. As Doc mentions, whatever he's standing on is too sharp (to the point of distracting the eye from the owl). Other than that, it looks good to me :thumb

Cannot helpy uou out as to why thay would be oversharp.. i did a whole image sharpening in Photoshop with USM and I usually do not use enough USM from what others have told me... :dunno

The Burrowing owl is standing on the stalk of a Agave plant that had bloomed... The plant does have sharp edges, but not sure why they would come out oversharp on thet and not on the owl...:dunno

Maybe a function of where the focus was, or simply the local characteristics of the image. There's nothing wrong here, and it's an easy fix. You don't have to sharpen the entire image. Try using the history brush to sharpen only the areas that really need it. Show us an unprocessed original, I bet the Agave looks sharp already.

I think it's splendid. I laughed when I associated it with your title. I'd have thought the look a bit disgusted (perhaps by the ankle bands), but the further notion that the bird is trying to hypnotize me (perhaps in order to avenge itself?) works just great: unexpected and just that bit more interesting.

I don't think the shot is over-sharpened. I think that the busy-ness of the Agave and the fact that it is colored just as the bird is colored are causing a bit of distraction and hiding the birds feet too.

Still, it's a very expressive and amusing owl shot, well exposed, well focused, composed in a very simple graphic way.

I say.
