mod edit: I moved all this nonsense from the original FS ad in the flea market (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=27921) to its own thread. Now you can all guess, lecture and preach to Daniel.

Okay Daniel, what is the "devised plan"? Seems to me you dream about changing equipment more often than most people change their underwear.

I would suggest learning with and growing with a camera and its accessories will help you take better pictures.

What is your plan? 20D or 1DmkII?

or 350XT with a 35-350 lens.

I hate plans when they are secret and I know they are secret :)

:agree At age 14 He should just be happy to have what he's got!!
95% of kids his age are just happy to have a P&S let alone a DSLR!!
Who cares what everbody else has......it's the person behind the camera that makes the pic not the camera!

Had a huge discussion with Dan in IM......typical teen hast'a either keep up with the crowd or show off!

NOT impressing anyone.....and dang sure at 14 lack experiance!!
Many of us have been in the field for 20yrs or more and still don't reach PRO status and those that did it darn sure wasn't the camera that did it!!
Don't let the digital addiction get the best of ya......buy what you can afford and be happy with it!!

Sorry to be so BLUNT but factual.:uhoh

Listen to your elders that have been around Daniel....you'll learn a lot......it's the MATURE thing to do!!:thumb

:NOTE:
I was the one that talked him into going DSLR about 2 months ago and found him this camera on FM to buy.
With Christmas money and money He had saved.....His Dad even kicked a few bux IIRC?
Did I mention this was 2 MONTHS AGO!!

I stick with when you learn you equipment well, you get the best shots!

I didn't start photography till I was about 18 or 19. Started with nothing camera's......and about age 24 went to a Minolta X700 with a Tamron 60-300mm zoom....then to a Canon A1. BUT I had a JOB and was working.
Later on had to dump it cuz film and developing was killing me! (5-8 rolls a week) Min wage job.

Ya work with what you can afford esp when ya hafta earn the $$$ to buy it and pay your important bills!!

Sound advice Graphy, and I'm sure Daniel appreciates it. I'm also very sure you're just looking out for him, but I think PM may be the best place for this debate to take place. We are pretty close to thread hijacking/sale sabotage here guys and regardless of how we feel about his sale, Daniel should be afforded the same rights and courtesy any Dgrinner would show us.

Just to chime in: if Dan was 34 years old, nobody would have said anything. Being 14 today isn't like being 14 three decades ago. When I was his age I bought my first computer and was the same way with upgrades -- and sooner than later I was making solid money using it in highschool. If he feels like he wants a 20D, let'm have it -- it's definetely a nice upgrade from the 10D. (Wish I could afford to go up to a 20D!)

Damn. I'm looking to get my first dSLR, and this would be the perfect entry level for me! Lol, unfortunatley my budget can't support that right now, but in 6 or 8 months anybody with a good deal on a (then old) 20D watch out! :D

Lol, don't tempt me! I'm ahving trouble paying my rent and bills the way it is! The last thing I need is another $1000 on my credit card to have to deal with! Now, if I can buy it with a no money down, no payments for a year, option, then we can talk! Lol :D

Dan, question:
For someone who has been saying "Wait for FMA" every thirteen seconds for the last few weeks, why didn't you wait a couple weeks for Canon's new bombshell, so the used 20Ds' prices would drop significantly?

You all can delete this after I have my say!

Daniel is not 14, he is a photographer.

And some people here sound like a cliche of old, as in "when I was your age".

Also, equipment does matter, and a 14 yr old with a plan that does not involve drugs, etc, well, sounds good to me.

But I repeat, Dan is not 14 yrs old. I have never known anyone like him. He is one for the "ages".

ginger

Oh, and any camera he has had I am sure has been well taken care of. And this one even sounds like a very good deal!!!!

(and my 20D is staying right here, no matter what Canon brings out)

Are we talking about Daniel or Andy?:D

It's ok to have dreams.
The smart thing to do is have dreams, but make sure they are realistic and reasonable. Listen to what experienced people have to say - blend that in with your dream until you have a plan that is realistic and meets the real world budjet.

okay, since i've officially withdrawn my 10D from the market and i have a 70-200 f/4L and a 430 on the way, i'll fill you in as to waht my plan was... or as my dad called it, the Photographic Stock Market idea

my "devised" plan was to sell my camera. for 675.. i already have 550 saved up.... i figure, i can buy a Canon 70-200 f/4L and a 580EX, then... i would have some more money coming in, and i could buy the 10D back whenever the 20D replacement comes out because the 20D's price will be lower, thus bumping the 10D's price lower...

i figure it will be easy to pick up a used 10D easily on FM because people will be wanting to upgrade to the replacement... selling their 20D's then that will make all the 10D people want 20D's so they sell their 10D's

and yeah that was my mad scientific plan... and i would have gone through with it too, but i decided i didn't need all the 580 had to offer just yet and i found a stellar deal on a 70-200 that i couldn't pass up so i have a 430 on the way from B&H right now and the 70-200 should be here by friday or saturday...:lust

so there ya go, the secrets out!

enjoy gossiping about how i'm a scheeming little teenager who would take advantage of the momentary lapse in sales to make an extra 250ish:thumb
