my question... do i get a new 430EX or a new 550EX?
it seems like the 430 has faster recycling time but i have no idea if that is relevent to the power, i would spring for the 580 butttt i don't have the money for that... so the 430 of 550 seem like the next best options...
any opinions:dunno i'll be coupling this with the 70-200 f/4L for sport shots
thanks,
Daniel

Get the Sigma Super 500DG. I'm serious. 90% the capability of the 580ex (equivalent to the 550ex, essentially) and much, much cheaper -- I got mine for $165 USD. You won't regret it.

550EX and grab it used on FM. You'll want the extra distance for sports.

Sorry I couldnt talk on AIM last night daniel but I love my 430. It's like a machine gun when shooting burst mode and it has some great throw. It will work well with your 28-105 because thats it's native range. I have not been unhappy and my batteries have never died on the thing. :thumb

I think for the price difference, a used 550ex will do everything you want and them some... trust me on this. I think the guide number is only 3 ft different, or something like that. The 580 is just the new 550. Look more into it before you blow good money.

About the Sigma flash; does it be used as a master like the 550?

I'm not sure I understand the phrasing of your question, but I do know that the Sigma Super can act as a master or a slave with other Sigma flashes. I don't think it can control Canons, but I don't expect it to.

what i meant is, i know theres a little bit of recycling time... but is recycling time relevent to the power the flash puts out? and also are there any differences in the rear-curtain flash or burst modes:dunno because those are the 2 i will use most often when not using it for ceiling bounce....
P.s.- this is still comparing the 550 to 580

Both do bursts and rear-curtain. Rear-curtain is a must as far as I am concerned. Keep looking into the 550, I think you'll see it is worth saving the money. It can also be a master or a slave to the Canon setup.

I might go & have a look at them :thumb
