Help: Urgent. Buying a 500mm lens.

Hi All,

Will a lens "that will fit all Nikon F mount" work on a D50? Limits?

I have a chance at getting a sigma 500mm APO lens (that's all the info I have).

will it work on DSLR's? Metering? Good / bad buy?
Guy wants £150 ($300) for it in mint condition.

Problem is I have to get it now.

Yes. But I'd insist on seeing, touching, feeling, tasting, and trying it out on the D50 first.

The guy is also selling a Nikon F2 (Old camera?) Which I guess is the other half of the parcel.

excuse my ignorance here but he says 500mm lens.
Would that me prime? Would seem silly to have a 500mm prime.

I assume then that the camera knows nothing of the lens other than that it's attached....
