The Tigers at the Melbourne Zoo just pace constantly....... I am not sure what that means but they kinda seem distressed to me when they do that, but who knows maybe its normal behavior for them :dunno

Beautiful shots Brian..... I love big cats...... Skippy (Australia)

:clap Kitties! LOL, even if they could eat me, I would love to pet them. Great shots, I particularly love the expression of the 1st one. Typical cat attitude. :):

Great shots, Greaper. I'm so jealous! I went to the zoo on Friday and didn't get anything good. Please tell me, do you use a really long lens? Are there any cages or fences? Do the cats sleep all day in a den? These shots are just beautiful, so natural looking.:clap:clap

Thanks everyone.

I love the big cats. Lions, Tigers, Leopards, etc. I want to get a nice shot of the cheetahs but their home is really big and I can never get anything I like.

I would not recommend petting the kitties, Those teeth are really BIG.

I am glad you like them.

The cats do sleep a lot, but if you hang around a while, or come back frequently, you will sometimes catch them awake and watchfull. Sometime I really feel sorry for them as they look so bored.

They are all behind fences or glass. The glass is the worst because it is always nasty. The fence is not too bad although it makes flash about impossible. For most of these I use a sigma 170-500mm zoom. the long glass with a shallow DOF makes it possible for the fence to be so OOF that it does not appear. It works best if you get as close to the fence as possible and the subject is a good distance away.
