I was asked to take photos of a function last night. I was attending as a guest and my dad asked me to bring the camera along.
The location is in an old hotel and conference center. The place is very well decorated year round.
Now, I am trying to figure out how to handle a complaint with the positioning of mirrors in the conference room. I have attended and spoke at probably hundreds of conferences over the years. In that time, I have never seen a facility place a mirror behind the speakers head. And worse than that place one accross the room in front of the speaker.
I can cope as a photographer. I angled off of the side to keep my reflection out of the picture. I used a bounce/diffuser to keep the glare down.
The bad part is that nobody wants to see the back of the speakers head. We all know he has a bald spot, but nobody wants to see it for 30 minutes during his speech.
Should I contact the conference center manager and suggest they move the mirrors? I think that a neutral background or painting would be better. The mirrors do not add anything to the room. And the negatives seem to outway the positives. I also do not want to sound like a moaning photographer. My photos came out ok so that is not really the complaint. I am positive that some decorator did not think things out completely when picking the wall treatments.
This was probably the worst one of catching me in the photo. I need to go back and crop it. You can also see the infinite reflection created by the 2 mirrors.
