Canon/Nikon fit?

My friend *known as JamisM*,on this forum, has recently heard a "rumor" that supposedly in 2007-2008ish Canon and Nikon are going to begin making all of their lenses a "universal fit" mount. so that a person could use a Canon body, with a Nikon lense and vise versa. could this be true. and if so. what does this spell for all of us that are so dedicated to Canon and how will this affect Sigma and Tamron and companies like that who make lenses for both?:dunno

just my recent ponderings.:scratch

Highly Doubtful that Canon and Nikon would agree to a common lens mount, I doubt they could even agree that the sky is blue.:D

the reason i bothered asking was because, say it did happen. that would put sooo many lense companies out of buissness. *personal opinion*
