What is an "Adobe Photoshop JPG File"? When I save to JPG under Photoshop CS under Tiger 10.4 and select "file info" I get that for the file type. The reason this is a problem is when I upload to Smugmug it says the image type is not supported.

Are you using Save As in photoshop? I'm on mac and do that. Never seen this problem? When I save as, the choice is just "jpg"
Are you sure your file has an extenstion of .jpg? Check that :ear

Yeah, its a JPG extension. Turns out my problem is not the file type after all (nor the file size) but rather the sheer number of pixels that is making Smugmug drop it. Created a large collage and went a bit crazy with the resolution of the thing... Too late in the evening, too much coffee... :D
