I am looking at the Rebel XT but have a question...
I want a good lense for both close ups and zoom photography. Here is where I show my ignorance. What do the 2 numbers mean, such as 28/200? Oh, and any lense suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Please go easy on me. I am just beginning my education.
Thanks for the help.

go to www.bhphotovideo.com (http://www.bhphotovideo.com) i know many people here would highly recommend them. also www.onecall.com (http://www.onecall.com) is a good site. good luck!
a good zoom lense is the 28-105. like in my signature below...
the numbers mean the millimeter of the zoom. a.k.a.- the zoom. also the lower the F-stop the better. *thats the numbers after the f/*

knox, welcome :wave
You have some very very basic questions, hard to get good answers on them from individuals. I would highly recommend picking up any basic photography book. Really, any book will do.
Then, poke around our Hall of Wisdom (http://www.dgrin.com/forumdisplay.php?f=24) for lots of general info threads.

It is most definately NOT a good place to buy the camera. Check the reviews. It is another "bait and switch" scam site.

As for the "numbers", they are the amount of zoom the lens has. For example, a 50mm lens is a standard lens and will give you about as much reach as you see in person. A 70-200mm lens will give you a lot more reach. To put it in simple words, the lower the number, the wider field of view you will have. The larger the number, the narrower field of view you will have.

Thanks, guys. I don't mean to come on here and ask questions that I should research on my own. I just got down my old Rebel 35mm book (I forgot I had it) and am starting to read it (I used my Rebel as a point and shoot, so didn't get too into it like I want to now).
Thanks for the hall of wisdom link. I will definietely look through that area.
