Alright - the big one! It's really simple- Let's find out what you think is
The Dgrin Photo Of The Year - 2005
Send your entry to: dgrin@email.smugmug.com, with the password dgrinphoto in the subject line. Your caption goes in your email. Just attach your photo (150Kb or less please, 800px max on the longest side) and you're all set! Only ONE entry per member. Can be any photo, so long as it was taken in 2005 *and* it was shared here on dgrin this year. Challenge entries are acceptable also. All dgrinners are eligible, including our hard-working, volunteer moderators.
(here's an example of the email and how it should look) EDIT: BE SURE AND PUT YOUR NAME IN THE CAPTION, TOO!
http://dgrin.smugmug.com/photos/45997875-L.jpg
Further help is available here (http://www.smugmug.com/help/camera-phones).
Submit your entry by December 22nd, 2005.
[EDIT: date changed by Mike Lane to reflect the extension]
I'll put all the photos in this gallery (http://dgrin.smugmug.com/gallery/995228) on dgrin.smugmug.com.
We'll vote in two rounds. First, we'll vote on ALL THE ENTRIES. Then, we'll have a finalist vote on the top 10.
The winner gets bragging rights!

Does it have to be in the form it was posted? For example, can we "gussy up" a shot with frames, etc, or edits that were suggested here but never actually posted?

Our first entry is in. you can see it here (http://dgrin.smugmug.com/gallery/995228)

Any edits you like. Let's stay away from frames, make the shots stand out on their own.

Yeap, originally posted here (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=23179). Which brings up an interesting point... is it that it has to have been shot this year or shown on dgrin this year? (Though he says it was taken last year in the thread, the exif says it was taken in January.)

I don't know what to send. I am not a good enough photographer to have an OUTSTANDING shot, nor am I bad enough to have ONE good shot.
I think I am a very good photographer, most of the time, well, some of the time, but very prolific with many good shots in many arenas.
But nothing that really stands out like shots of the depression, or the Napalm kid in Viet Nam, nor Bresson, even (though I don't know how recognized he would be today in a group...?? But I don't have any of his stuff anyway.) I probably do landscapes better than birds, at least I get more comments on them, but they are not spectacular, just good.
I have one, well.............I don't know.

:bash :bash :bashAs many people still don't seem to get it. The mails with the pictures attached to go directly into the smugmug system! Anybody (not even Andy) gets to see the real email you sent with your emailaddress or name you might have set in your emailprograms!!
SO please follow the little steps Andy told you a thousand times about:
Your Caption and your Name have to be written in the body of the email OR your picture won't be qualified for the contest!!
Thanks,

Lynn, I have plenty of good shots, IMO, they are great, but not photo of the year. Smile.
I would enter the one of Bill, but it was taken a year ago, as in December, I think, 2004.
I have two in mind. The KPOTD one and the man photographing our bridges. I think it will be the bridge shot, but I can't decide on color or black and white.
I just like it as it is an unusual shot for me to have taken, plus I think it is good, smile. But photo of the year? I think that would be a shot of all dGrin photographers together, taken from the top of a ladder, smile. (I do know which one so far I like, but I can't share that............it is NOT mine, not that I don't like mine..........for me!)
Thanks, Lynn,
I love yours, always have!

I sent the email using Outlook. Millions of people use Outlook. Could be the problem is on the Smugmug end. Maybe? Huh? http://www.digitalgrin.com/images/smilies/ne_nau.gif Or maybe there can not be anything else in the email. The first word has to be "Caption"? Is that the problem?
Thanks for the assistance Rutt.

I AM EXTENDING THE DEADLINE TO DECEMBER 22nd.
Andy, I think it would be a good idea if you edited the first post in this thread to reflect this. It still say Dec 15 and many people may not actually find the extended deadline buried as it is so deeply in the thread.

traunerk otherwise known as Keith T.
...that title and name *were* in the e-mail.
I called it "Enjoying the Game" by Keith T. (traunerk)
Hope that helps....for your totally thankless task as he wonders "who in the world would volunteer for this stuff?" Credit where credit is due - your posting energy is an order of magnitude higher than mine...
Best for the holidays to you and your family....KT

And you, too Keith :D
No worries about the email stuff - some email clients cause the stuff to be stripped in the process.

Andy - I sent you a follow-up message immedeiately after the first because I realized I hadn't included my DGrin name. Also you've got a typo in the title - should be "Wall of Lost Souls" not "Wall of St Louis".
Thanks,
Andy

Hi,
I included the name and caption in the email, but they apparently didn't get through. :scratch I left a comment on the pic later as instructed.
Lots of great entries in that gallery! :clap
