(That wouldn't be one of those rare ones who have recently been spotted in some obscure place, southeast USA, but west of me, would it? Looks like a big bird. Beautiful. I love woodpeckers, hope that is what it is. I, uh, hahah, don't see bird feeder birds anymore.)

Hi ginger
Thanks.
This is a plain ole pileated woodpecker - not an ivory bill. But I think the news about the ivory bill is fabulous!

Many don't realize how BIG these Guys are till you see one in person!
I had one in my back yard awhile back and my Boy went nuts when he saw how big they are in flight.
Noisey too!
Hopefully we will know before long if the Ivory Bill is still around OFFICALLY!
Guys at Cornell are there now I think on the hunt.

Hi Dennis, Ben and John
I love these guys - had only seen a couple of them prior to moving to this house, but we now have a pair nesting near enough by that this summer there was a baby at the feeder. Very cool.

Yep, they are large birds. And they make really neat sounds other than the bang when tapping on trees.
I think the evidence indicating that the Ivory bill could still be around is really neat, and hope that it can be confirmed.
