... but he just posted some outrageously great shots to his other board, the motorcycle one. Like a thieving magpie, I am going to pluck the nice shiny ones and bring them to our nest here, so we can enjoy them too. If Baldy gets pissed, he'll fire me, and I'll treat it as a learning experience and grow as a person.

On the same website, a guy took a Voightlander :dunno range finder camera with a 12mm lens, and shot some wonderful black and white images.
Take a look at the first page of this thread (http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47740&page=1&pp=15) and you'll see what a 12mm lens can do. Warning, it's a loooong first page with lots of photos!
The shots were made on film and scanned for posting. I don't know the guy, so I won't repost his images. but they're well worth a look.

Baldy, you mentioned you wanted to dodge/burn the top shot. I linked you to Cletus' tip on a gentler way to do it. Here are my results.

After lightening the rider.

No worries, wxwax — thanks for doing it! I been a busy boy.
Some of my favs were actually shots from the side with the shutter slowed down to create motion blur:

My only problem with your portraits, is missing my 300mm. The 1.6x mulitplier puts your 70-200 in that range, what a great way to get a 300mm look without the $4000.00. Hmmmn, cheaper to get a 10D, then the 300mm. :scratch :deal
I also really enjoyed seeing your action photos. I had hoped to get out there to get some shots, but the timing did not work out. Hopefully I can get some great shots at the Cromag Campout. Maybe iillyyaa will do some stoppies and Max will do some burnouts on their GS's. :evil I am not sure if we will have such incredible terrain, maybe we can find some mud.

I think we can work something out. I really need to learn how to wheelie my DRZ. I did once when I went over some Railroad Tracks at the Hot Springs Rally, oooopps too much throttle. :evil Now if I can just safely repeat it. Time to learn to do them on my mountain bike too. I wonder if I can ride it with my Tech 8 boots, Arai helmet, 661 pressuresuit, those would sure make falling a lot softer than a cycling jersey and shorts. I think that I worry more about smacking my shinbone on a pedal. Ouch! :wxwax

No not a downhiller. I rode a lot ten years ago when I lived in Alaska, mostly cross country single track. I have mostly ridden road since I moved back to GA. Now I am trying to get back into Mountain Biking. I can do small short time wheelies to clear objects, but I would like to be able to do longer ones just for the skill. I was kidding about wearing the stich with the pressure suit. Mountain biking is usually done without any pads, just a helmet and gloves. I just see crashing in my future trying wheelies.
The pressure suit was part of the deal when I got the DRZ in May. I have just used the stich so far, but when I get a chance I will try dressing like a motocrosser and should stay cooler. I just feel safer in the stich and I do not think the PS would fit under it. Most of my rides have still taken me on street and dirt, have to think the stich works best there.
I have not been out on the DRZ too much lately. I need wxwax to change the forecast and drop the temp below 90. something in the 50's or 60's would be great. :evil

I saw your photos and all the Ouray photos and really want to get to that part of Colorado. I have so many dream trips, one is to mountain bike or hike the entire great divide route, hike the AT, hike the PCT, sea kayak the BC/AK coastal area (same with Newfoundland and Nova Scotia), travel to the NW territories, if I can manage that then I will start to look at the rest of the world, Hawaii, Iceland, New Zealand, Chile. I guess I have not choice, but to retire now (or win the lottery :rofl ) and start on my travels. I might get a chance to do most of them.

I think I must ride the Continental Divide route soon. I bought the maps from Adventure Bicycling when they came out, and I read Clement Salvadori's article and caught the bug. I think I would prefer a Dual-Sport to a bicycle these days. 20 years ago I probably would have wanted to bicycle it, but now I prefer some comfort along the way. On a bicycle it would take several weeks I think maybe 3-8 weeks. With a twist grip, 2-3 weeks will be enough. I wonder if you start in the spring and ride north as the weather warms if that is better than riding the southerly direction. Any thoughts about this?
The two weeks I spent in Colorado with family this summer were great - lots of neat dirt roads around Salida and Buena Vista, many of which end at the top of 14,000 foot mountains -:clap

As the years roll by, I look at what I want to do and what I have time to do. The DRZ would be ready to go on the CD, all I need is the time, money and someone to go with. In the last two years I have definitely started working less and playing more. I hope to continue more of the same, unfortunately my current schedule is very scattered making planning long trips very difficult. I am trying to work that out too. The first steps are financial security (at least some stability) so I can take the time off. I have cut my expenses as far as I can, now if I can just stop from buying new toys, video camera, new touring bicycle, camera lenses, CF cards, computers..... it is a nearly endless list. I guess I need to cut myself off completely, sell my home and live out of my car. :rofl That way whatever does not fit in it (cameras, laptop), on it (bicycles, kayak) or behind it (DRZ) cannot come and can be sold off. :scratch I am not sure if I can give up my comforts of home at this point. I guess I just need to get a renter/roommate to pay the bills so I can go and play. :clap I am trying to put together a trip at the moment to New England and hopefully up to Labrador and Newfoundland. I am going to put some saddle time in on the DRZ to see how far I can ride in a day to see if I can actually take it on long trips, be it the Labrador Highway or the Great Divide Trail. The problem is they are, for the most part, one way routes and that would be a long way back, need to work out the logistics.

Working less and playing more - I hear ya. We're all going to be dead a long time, better enjoy it while we're here.:rofl The seat on the DR650 would limit me to 200 or 300 miles a day at most - I think it is not a long distance touring bike for my bottom. It feels like a 2x4. But great fun on double track. The 1150GS IS good for 500-700 if I push it but not the ideal bike for the CD either. I usually try to get from Indiana's western border to mid Kansas on the first day as I go west if possible on the GS. Some of my fellow riders complain a bit sometimes about that.:D
I think you would have to tow out to Montana or New Mexico and then ride the CD from there. It is a LONG way from the east to the Rockies by small motorcycle. Might have to ride down the CD a ways and then back to get back to the tow vehicle. I haven't figured that out yet either. Next spring late might be a good time from the southern end. Keep in touch - Love to hear of your trips or plans. I hope to quit full time employment in the next year or two if the economy does not implode.

I won't be able to quit working anytime soon, but hopefully I can keep it limited.
I would definitely trailer it out there. That is part of the problem, how to get back to the trailer? I have thought about just hitting sections that look good. Stop and ride, then move on, not quite the same, but it would be flexible and give you time to recharge at night, plus you would not need to haul as much gear. I have also thought about a similar plan with my mountain bike. That would be a little cheaper too, just make some good loops. So many options, so little time.
I agree about having a limited amount of time here, why work it all away? Who has ever been on their deathbed wishing they had worked more?

I will let you know. I would like to head back and ride some of the dirt roads outside Dalton and Hinsdale. I went there to a friends farm as a kid and had a lot of fun. I would like to revisit the area.
I put the stock Trailwings back on it last night, so I have a longer distance tire. I am waiting to see my work schedule today for the week. If nothing comes up I am going to head towards the Blue Ridge Parkway. The goad is to run the whole road twice (one way N/S) all the way to Front Royal. The whole trip will be about 1500 miles. I figure I should be able to do 500 to 750 per day. I will know after about the second hour. :rofl Hopefully I can handle it, otherwise I will be on a much shorter trip and go play in the NC mountains. The bike handles a lot better on the street with the TW vs the 606's. A littler easier to raise the front with these tires on the street. I did a couple mini-wheelies, I know the wheel came off the ground, just not very far.
