I have all my family pictures up on smugmug and I have my personal.smugmug.com url to get to them, this is great.

But, what if I take pictures at an event, say at my company christmas party, and I upload them to a gallery in my smugmug account. Is there an alternate URL I could use to invite everyone in the company to look at the pictures without giving out my personal.smugmug.com URL? I'd rather not have everyone around me perusing all my pictures...

I thought of hiding my url via tinyurl.com, but once they are in, they would still see my personal url.

I know my pics are in public galleries and I'd rather not lock them down. I'm not worried about the occasional person searching me out, but it would be nice if I could share certain galleries without opening my door.

http://www.moonriverphotography.com/gallery/830860

http://williams.smugmug.com/gallery/830860

all go to the same place :D

Hope this helps.

BTW, I make my family stuff private, and in most cases, password protected (http://www.smugmug.com/help/private-albums). If you go to www.moonriverphotography.com you'll only see what I want you to see.

I tried it and it works great, but I noticed that if I clicked on the navigation bar at the top, I could go to my other categories and my personal URL is displayed again.

I thought that this wouldn't work for me until I noticed the "Hide Owner" option in the gallery customization! This hides the navigation bar, and when I hit the "links" button, the url's are www and not my URL, Perfect! :thumb

Thanks
David

It appears to me that there are still at least 2 ways that a viewer could find out your smugmug user name.

Granted, they would have to know something about smugmug, but still...

1) The ALT image text has both your name and user name in it. At least I've found this on some of the different views. I've seen it on the all thumbs view and the individual picture fivew. It seems to affect only the pictures with captions. (hover over a picture to see it)
2) If you go to the EXIF information, the "Photograph Details" link is to your personal.smugmug.com site, not www.smugmug.com. I realize you could turn off EXIF information, but there may be an occasion where you want the EXIF on, yet still want to hide owner.

I don't know if I'm being obsessive, but when I want to Hide Owner, I want to hide it all the way.

Hi Galla,

The exif would not show anything like that, unless it was an original image. Of course, if you're concerned about such things, you're already turning Originals OFF in your galleries..

I reported that as a bug once, but then discovered that things were not as they appeared.

There seem to be a few quirks with Hide Owner in that those little IDs such as Alt tags still identify you unless you are logged out all the way. Because of the way that smugmug seems to use cookies as it dynamically builds the pages, I still maintain that the only way to evaluate a site as it will look to an outsider is to start a different browser where you are sure all smugmug cookies are blown away. When I do that, I can't find any trace of my username even in the source code. But if you are logged in or if certain cookies are still around, the page might still show evidence about you here and there. At least that was the way it was the last time I checked.
