Here are a couple of examples of using extension tubes on long zooms.

These are cropped to allow actual pixels to be shown instead of reducing the size down.

70mm f2.8 1/30th and about 6 inches away.

Which length extension tube did you use? These seem tack sharp to my eye.http://www.dgrin.com/images/icons/lickout.gif

The 2 at 70mm were with the 36mm extension and I am embarrassed to say that I was fooling around so much that I do not remember what I had on the for the shot with the 400mm. I took 6 or 7 shots and a couple were blurred but I am pleased with the results particularly since they were all handheld.
