View Full Version : Stop these *#@~! smugmug upload e-mails!

I uploaded a couple of photos to my smugmug site this afternoon (Wednesday, our time). When I got home this evening after a pleasant dinner out, I had 26 e-mails telling me an image had been successfully uploaded. Since then, I've had a good dozen more, arriving in batches of four or five at a time.

How can I stop this unsolicited spam? This has to be a bug but I promise not to upload any more images, if that's what it takes. Am I alone, or are others suffering this problem?

In your account settings, look for the e-mail preferences. One of them is for upload notifications.

Thanks CB.

This parameter is now in the Account Settings, actually, and I've set it off which should stop the blitz of e-mails. Your response is much appreciated - thanks.

However, it seems Smugmug may have a problem which I hope they will, or have, addressed.

Thanks again CB.

www, it's certainly not spam, smugmug takes that issue very seriously. recieving upload confirmation emails is a user preference, you set that in your control panel. now i will admit that getting 26 is unusual, unless you uploaded 26 separate files. it was most likely a glitch and it's being reported to the engineers.

glad you got your settings changed.

glad you got your settings changed. The setting is outdated and only is useful with the old uploaders. There's nothing wrong with it and it works like it should - just the behavior of the new uploaders is different and much faster for the user. Before all files were taken as a whole batch and therefore the user got just 1 mail stating that the batch is complete.
The new uploaders handle each file seperately and less dependent on the success of the whole batch - they are processed independently from the other files. Therefore you get a mail per successfully uploaded image.

I've no real inside in SM's system and so this is just a guess on how it works - so go ahead and correct me if I'm wrong. :wink

I'm quite familiar with this, but I only submitted a couple of images, and then a good two to three hours previously!
