What a lovely location. I love the quiet, sleepy mood of your photo.

The haze in this shot is the main detractor for me. I don't use filters much, but I'm sure there are some that could help cut that down (on the lens when shooting, and in post-processing).

I also think a similar picture taken when the sun is a little lower or a little higher in the sky might be more interesting. A lower sun would hopefully highlight the ripples in the water, and a higher one would illuminate the water and foreground more overall.

This exact shot would be more appealing to me if you cropped it a little differently and bumped up the contrast and saturation. I know post-processing is not the point of this section, but I'd crop out a bit of the right and upper sections.

I'm a newbie here and don't necessarily know what I'm talking about, but thanks for the opportunity to give it a try!

Laurie, PP is not the focus of this forum, but general comments (not how-to's) about PP suggestions are always welcome!

madigg, I think part of the problem with the haze is worsened by the overall blue cast on the image. The blue accentuates the haze. Try reducing the blue a touch and see what happens. Or a warming filter...or a dozen other ways to reduce the blue, which is evident in the greens, too I think. They should probably be more yellow-green than blue-green.

It is a lovely scene. The composition is a bit flat. Horizon dead center, and a lack of a strong focal point. I'm not sure exactly what to look at in this image. The sky is not all that interesting, either. It's certainly a spot worthy of revisiting, and the shot is certainly worth reworking in post to optimize the beauty of it.
