I want to connect my Dell XPS laptop with my CRT which only has VGA input. Any recommendations? want to do photo editing.

They are readily available here in America, not sure about your neck of the woods. You can get cables with one end a HDMI and the other end with VGA connector. Or you can buy an HMI to VGA adapter.

I can get it from ebay or even USA, i was wondering if IQ suffers during conversion, ofcourse not expecting HD signals just concerned about color shifts.

I don't think so but I am not an expert in this area. I am using a DVI to VGA adapter for my LACIE Blue 22" CRT without any issues.
