Well, luckily we avoided a bird thread in the game...that would have been frickin' endless. Everyone of the posts in the nature forum seems to be an association game all in it's own. I mean, what, are they at least 100 images strung together?????

not sure what you are not seeing in the association...what I see is man, shape of hat, eyes. the association is simply some element of a photo;theme, a view, a color or opposite. etc. that can be seen in the next. It is for me a creative way of relating/linking one photo to the next. Not sure how to explain it cause there are many many ways to see the next link.

The green hat is the association. I get it.
But, did you notice we now have birds? Rutt tried to break it up. Yeah, the expression on that lady sure matches Harry's bird expression, but by the time I uploaded my bird shot to my smugmug account, I had to post it anyway. Sorry Rutt. My bird has kind of the same expression anyhow. :thumb

WOW! Y'all are moving FAST. Last time I looked at this thread there were like 80 pages and I made it to 50, tonight... 129! but I made it all the way through, and miracle of miracles, that last shot, as soon as i saw it I knew the photo from my collection to link.
Amazingly fun game! Much more fun to watch than a certain game that's been on the tele lately... something about a laundry competition? http://dgrin.com/images/smilies/headscratch.gif

So the game thread is up to 1300 images.
Now, if you spent a mere 15 seconds viewing each picture in the thread, that means you've spent (wasted) 5.42 hours at your computer screen - just playing the association game. :scratch
Now use this formula: 5.42 X {enter your hourly pay here - or what you believe your hourly time to be worth, if unemployed} = $
Wow, I better get to work - I'd have made a considerable dent in my new Nikon D200 down payment if it weren't for this silly game.:rofl

Oh, and wholenewlight, there are entire pages I've spent less than 15 seconds on... a quick swipe of the mouse wheel to see.. bird, bird, birds, bird, bird, birds, gee will ya look at that... a bird, birds, three women in bikinis.... I swear this thread will put the most millage on my pour mouse wheel faster than anything.

I'll tell you what I think about this dgrin game.... it is throwing off the calculations for the dgrin posting contest of when Andy will post his 10,000th post.
Now, I know I have calculated his average posts per day and his # of days posting here for #10K to the exact date, minute and second (even local N.Y time), but I'll tell you, this game thing is going to warp my otherwise precise calculations and deviate them by probably a few days off. I hadn't figured on this dgrin game thread at all. Next time I'll be more careful to include this or other variables.
Yes, I know that I can not legally win that contest being a moderator, but it is the principle of the thing afterall.
There. I feel better. OK, I'll go quietly now.

In other game threads like this, when commenting on the game post (in our case the picture) in the game thread, it's common to at least put the comment number in the discussion thread... or some folks even do a link to it. This makes it easier when folks are catching up later to see the correlation and see which pic of rutts looks good enough to eat for example. (not that it was hard to figure in that case, but some others have taken a while to track down).
Thanks.

That was awhile back, sorry for not reading. Something should flag us, I never would have dreamed someone was "talking" to me.
Those are photos taken at a visit to my daughter's a year ago. I like the photo a lot.
One is my granddaughter, the other is a friend, after ballet lessons. Not great photo, but just something I like about the unusual, un artistic, number of "two", I like the way they are both against the wall..........etc. May be a quirk of the moment for me.
However, I don't know why I posted it when I did. maybe it was "kids", maybe it was out of turn. an accident, you know, but it is so accessible under family, I could have put it back unless some others were posting at the same time.
Yeah, birdman, best thing is to just go with it: colors, or subject, whatever you want to change it to.
Sorry for not noticing, Andy.
ginger (I really would have liked to have posted yesterday, Turkey day here in the states! In fact, took first photos since getting my camera back, maybe "candids/family snaps", but kind of photography. Plus I had photos for the theme from Dixie's visit and couldn't get to them. So lately I've been unable to keep up with y'all, so I'm scrolling through a few days worth of pics at a time (and really, deeply, colorfully swearing at dgrin's concept of "read" and "unread"). Doing this I've found a rather entertaining game within the game... trying to guess (a) what the poster thought tied their shot to the previous, and (b) how many other ways you can tie them together, or (c) what the relationship between the shooter and the subject was.
For example, between posts 2090 and 2091 there is (a) the obvious facial similarities between Jim Cantore and the pooch... but there is also (b) things which should be outlawed, and (c) I'm guessing producer and host for Storm Stories, and I hope, passerby and dog looking for pity.
Namely for b I'm thinking pronged collars and allowing journalists into disaster zones solely for the purpose of "filing a report." (not to say that's the only reason wxwax and Cantore were there... but generally speaking, what I've heard from folks on the ground in nola that's about all any of the media were doing.)

I happen to admire Jim Cantore. I host on my private servers the chat rooms for Storm2k, a large community of avid hurricane watchers, meteorologist and enthusiast. During the hurricanes that chat room is an intense serious place and most are also tuned in to TWC etc. There are many professionals - military and civilian also.
I associated the intense worry and concern in his face with the same expression of the Vizula dog I took at a dog show. I've wanted to play the game for a long time, but I'm just not fast enough or I don't have good enough pics to post. It's fun and I get many laughs just reading this thread.

who's interested in photo telephone? that is, where from pic to pic there is a strong connection but subtle change:):
or photo story? as in, the pics move along a defined-on-the-fly theme or story (hence the relation)
maybe photo inspiration? meaning, pics connected by a shot they inspired (to take or post, I suppose)
possibly photo random? give em hell and confuse the audience with something seemingly totally unconnected
okay, so maybe this is less of a suggestion list and more of a breakdown of what I see in phassoc (pronounced 'fass ock')... nice pics all but you are warping my mind - and my mind is already thoroughly warped
-LeDude
p.s. my roomate's bird and I have a love-hate relationship... she love's to squawk as loud as possible when I microwave, talk on the phone or approach sleep - I'm going bird crazy here (a pic of the old daffy duck whooping around would be perfect to illustrate my state of being)
flapping, crapping, chirping, squawking,
only parrots do the talking
swooping, preying, nesting, mating,
can't find one ever sleeping
from dinosaurs they did evolving
from felines they need be fleeing
as pics more roll to posting
all are birds, BIRDS I'm seeing
whoooooop, whoop whoop, whop, whop, whop

wxwax,
I am not sure what is going on with it. It was posted fine when I submitted it. I check this morning and it does not come up. I check the gallery settings and external links was turned off. I did not do that. I have turned external link protection off and it still will not display in firefox. It does show in IE.
I did upgrade to the new firefox Friday, maybe that is the cause?
Ok, now it works. :dunno
Not sure what fixed it.

I guess because I don't want to eat up a lot of space at SM with myriad photos I don't ordinarily want others to see.
I have wondered about you and others who always link. You must keep a truck load of images at SM.
Perhaps I need to organize my site better and use additional "hidden" galleries for storage?

I had been trying to do shots of this event called "Dance Theater" - big dance and multimedia event at a local high school. I was trying to stop the action on stage. I've shot this event for a number of years and had good success. But very dark sets this year! Finally I gave up on stopping the action and tried to capture the feeling of movement.
Thanks!

This guy was hanging from the ceiling of the New York Museum of Natural History. I cut him out from his background and added a blue-green gradient background. I hadn't noticed, when I uploaded the image to Smugmug a few weeks ago, that new background shows bands of color rather than a smooth gradient. I'll have to take a closer look in Photoshop. :scratch
