View Full Version : Looking for those with Paypal additions...

I'm looking for those with a paypal addition to your page. What I'd really like to do is to set up a system to allow a person to order a download or a framed picture via paypal and once the transaction was processed to have it shoot me an email with the details and I would either email the image or email confirmation on the framing, order the pic, do the framing, and then ship it out.

I haven't checked my options on paypal yet, I thought I'd try not to reinvent the wheel if I could help it. Anyone have anything like this on their page?

Where did you enter this code, in CSS ?

and, are there any other elements I need to download in order to make this "work".. such as something from Paypal?

THanks in advance for your reply!

no, it's in the caption of a photo, not in your css stylesheet.

I was in the print ordering gallery and the Paypal payment button only appears (at least right now) under ONE image, your croton reseviour image.

Is that by design or are you still testing stages with that paypal button or what?

Also: your instructions say to click on either the paypal button on the thumbnail image but, ONLY clicking on the thumbnail image next to the paypal button works. Clicking on the paypal button for me did nothing.

Hope that helps?

mark, it's just an example of the hack, to show that it works.... it's not perfect i know ... and i don't so much image licensing in this manner.. but there was enough call for it that i thought i'd put up an example.

sorry for the late reply.

I haven't checked my options on paypal yet, I thought I'd try not to reinvent the wheel if I could help it. Anyone have anything like this on their page? Some smugmug sites with various forms of paypal on them (found in a Google search):

http://landrum.smugmug.com/Personal%20Photography
http://finnegan.smugmug.com/gallery/546187
http://photography.smugmug.com/Low%20Country%20-%20SC

Most smugmug sites that take PayPal that I found in a Google search, do not have any sort of electronic linkup direct from their site to PayPal. They just say in the text that they take payment via PayPal and they tell you to email them to place an order. Presumably, they then email the customer some instructions on how to pay via PayPal (I believe they email a link that they customer then uses to pay from).

Here are some typical examples of those types of sites:

I am wanting something like this...

Anybody tell me how to link this and where to put it? I just need a way to accept payments for retainers etc...

Thanks a bunch!!!! :D

P.S. I would probably prefer to have it w/in a gallery rather than a large icon on the bottom of my homepage. I have most of my information set up in a journal style gallery. Can I just put it together kind of like that??

Sure - do a single image journal gallery, and link it from your navbar... Then put the paypal stuff in your caption as I've described in this thread. Here's an example:

Do you have to get the prints made and send them to them? or does this somehow still go through smugmug?

We don't support any kind of Paypal for our print transactions. These paypal hacks are for you to use on your own.

In the case of my example, it's for a digital file sale.

I hope this helps!

After I figure out the slideshow....I will tackle this.

I've read through the thread regarding adding Pay Pal, but guess what? I don't get it. Although I'm not a novice when it comes to computers, I think this one is over my head.

Can anyone help me figure out how to set up a Pay Pal button? My goal is to be able to sell my book, and limited edition prints through Smugmug.

Thanks in advance to any help you can offer.

Thanks for the help. Althouhg it does through me to the Paypal page, I don't have a pay button on my Smugmug page. Nor does the cursor change to a hand. I'll see if I can work this out.

Just double checking. . . I see how to enter the code in the caption. I tried entering your code, Andy and something didn't work, I'll try again. Did you get the code from paypal? Will we need to set up the standard merchant account through them to have this paypal button on our page/image? (We've had a paypal account for a few years now for ebay stuff.)

Oh, and is there a code for that drop down menu you use on your site for the different deposit options? I like that. Thanks A

Great, we'll try it and see. . . may be easier and less costly to just ask the customer to email us so we can invoice them through paypal. I think the % cut they take may be less.

I love the look of this Andy. But when I try it, I come up with something very ugly (yeah, I know I need to change the paypal code... this is just a mock up, I'll get to that, but I need to figure out the layout/code)

I looked at your CSS and played around in FF CSS editor but I feel like I'm reinventing the wheel. I just want a very simple paypal button to be used for deposits. A single, easy button and dropdown options like you have.

I suppose another option would be to somehow sell a digital download as a deposit, but without a custom shopping cart, that might be a little bit of a stretch and not feel very trustworthy to customers.

Anyone feel like walking me through this? Here's how it currently looks:

EDIT: the google link would be fine too-- just something people could pay a deposit with a credit card via my SM site.

Alright-- I'll check back in a day or two once the google account is verified. I originally tried to do the paypal account but :scratch :rolleyes :dunno paypal seems to struggle a bit in terms of ease of use.

Okay, Andy, I'm now hooked up with google checkout and that answered most of my questions about this. Two easy questions remain though.

How do you get the bulleted list in your descriptions in your journal captions (in the link above)?

Also, how did you get a customized ('make deposit payment') button? Is your shopping cart through someone other than google?

I really like the way you have this all setup on your site, it looks really great. :thumb

What a great idea -- using a journal type gallery for a fees page. I may do that and try to incorporate my paypal account.

But let me ask this: How important do you think it is to have Paypal (or Google checkout) as an alternative form of payment? Is it really so popular that some people won't buy unless it's paypal? Or are most people simply using it for intangibles like deposits?

This paypal option is just a joke. Imagine to put this in every single photo. I guess it just would be easier if SM would get self printing option in the system. Long time ago I decided to sell photos over photoshelter and have a portfolio in SM. This way I can sell in photoshelter and have a portfolio of works I do in SM.
Good luck

Andy, I would like to accept payments via paypal for my services. I am currently running a special for $800. Can I just use the code paypal gives me for their buttons that go back to a paypal page?

Thanks,
