Hi Andy and all.

I followed you from D.... that other forum.
I've been reading here for a little while since I joined. What a great group of fun people. I feel like a huge sponge because there is so much to learn from this group. I don't get a feeling of "snobbery" here, just good photographers who want to help people learn and have fun with their cameras.
I loooooooooove my 828 and I am still learning to use it fully. I just purchased VCL-M3358 Close up Lens, IR and ND filters and a remote for it. Hopefully they will arrive soon.

I take my 828 with me everywhere I go and I shoot something - anything everyday just for the learning experience. I live in SW Indiana in the farm country so many of my pictures evolve around rural lifestyle. (if you click on my location, you will see just how far out in the corn I am.) We don't have mountains or ocean views, but we do have some pretty things out here in the corn that I hope to show you.

I wanted to participate in the "dirty" challenge because I have the perfect subject for that - a 3 year old son. Boy oh Boy can he demostrate dirty! Only problem is he hates the camera and it's very hard to get a good shot of him. Sigh....

Enough of my drivel. Thank you for the welcome.

Hear anything from Canon yet about the drowned 20D? Wouldn't be able to use it right now anyway, because I would be to scared to mess with it and take a chance of going down again. Knees and elbows can take a fall or two but cameras don't fare to well.:):

This is SO cool. I have never seen PIF used like this.

I am halfway through the 828 manual; thank God I already know what I know from years of shooting and loving computers n stuff. I'm so glad the word histogram is not new to me (not that I know how to use it fully - lol).

Now if I can just make these assets into reflexes...

I have already sent it to 'The Tooth', its been more than a week now, so he should be able to send it soon. TessaHD gets it next, then from there on who knows :dunno.

Its a good little guide though. It comes with a bunch of photoshop actions/plugins. It is a LONG READ though. I suggest going to your local college cpu labs and printing the entire thing there. :wink

I hate to use-up all them trees for all the paper it's bound to take; I'll probably used recycled paper and ink, too....yeah, that's the ticket....and I'll check out the code for the PS actions and hand-copy those, too...yeah, that's what I'll do.

Or....actually, I am a speed reader and can blow through it faster than can be imagined. I can probably 'read' at 48X normal...if only I could 'write' that fast....lol.

I am...(thanx, Mr)...like, I'm thinking...so the post offices close out there on Saturday? sheesh...but I won't say that because I do not pretend to even have a glimpse of what my be going on in your lives...I won't say that I could write a book before I get to see it...that might be misunderstood...I can't offer to help because well, what can I do?...I'll just keep checking here I guess.

BTW - does anyone want to know anything about this camera? It is a fun toy to use while I wait for and dream of a D2X. I like what I am getting with the "S" burst mode and am wondering what I might pick-up at a garage sale the would generate an IR beam bigger than the mini-light the 828 has...

It really is a fun toy.

Thankful that I am alive (just escaped from 10 days in the the hospital for a "PE" - I beat the 50/50 odds....the Angel of Death left me behind)

Looks like you got the works. You mentioned an illuminator - I made one that fits into my hot shoe and works pretty well. I had an event I was shooting with VERY low light and no noise from my camera (love that silent F717 shutter) and got some pretty good shots in nightshot mode with the illuminator. You can put one together for less than $100. If you are interested in details and handy with making stuff, you can pm me with your email and I'll show you how to do it.

Mike: As I have been, I bet you have shot clamatis, wisteria, roses, poppies, St. John's wort, and anything else in your garden that has a potentially appealing look. Fun, huh? Have you tried to duplicate what a rose campion looks like? THAT's a challenge that I have not quite yet figured out...still working on it. (attached)

I was looking at a site of a man in India; same shots. Viewed another portfolio from Russia; same shots. I was starting to feel 'typical.' Oh, well...I guess we are all seeing the same beauty and trying to capture it for sharing.

I hope that Peter iNova continues in the book with the same writing style found on the insert. How could he not? What a pleasure.

Just in reading the insert, I learned something profound. I have been making each correction step strive for the best possible look. Peter mentioned that sometimes a correct intermediate step may look like a photographic mistake on the way to the final image...interesting...
