Hi ya'll,
I'm looking to start a dvd collection of movies (documentaries) about/with wildlife and landscapes and am looking for recommendations. Dani bought us a wonderfull starter called "Winged Migration" that we would whole heartidly recommend, the cinematography, soundtrack, locales and subjects are breathtaking and wonderous. :thumb :thumb
Are there any we should also include as "must have"?
Thanks!
AJ

AJ, you started at the top, lol! Even I saw that one, fantastic award winner.
That Penguin thing, at our IMAX, it will come out on video sometime, ought to be fantastic, too. I haven't seen it, because there would be a lot of voice over that I couldn't hear, so am waiting for a video, too.
I will be interested in the responses you get, I have kept my eyes out since I saw Winged Migration, haven't seen anything like it.

Hey babe! I'm gonna have to agree with Ginger on March of The Penguins.... My aunt (the one that is the archeologist/anthropologist whatever) saw it and said it was fantastic!
Deep Blue might be another good one when it comes out

I heard Microcosm was a good one... it was done by the same people that did Winged Migration.
Maybe we could rent first to check them out before buying?

I can thoroughly recommend any David Attenborough series, BBC documentaries. One's to really look out for are:
Life of Birds
Life of Plants
and other "life of" titles, normally 3 dvd box sets.
Cheapest place to buy is ebay, although I am not sure if you would sellers of these in Canada or the states. Generally most BBC nature doc's are worth getting. If you need any help sourcing any over in GB just shout.

Hi AJ,
If you want something that has spectacular imagery and sound, then here are a few that I own and watch over and over:
:thumb:thumb:clap Koyaanisquatsi / Powaqqatsi / Naqoyqatsi (least fav of the three)
:thumb Chronos
:thumb:clap Baraka
:thumb Microcosmos - The world in Macro, very interesting and fun (bought at Walmart for $14)
There are some others that I can't think of off the top of my head. Do a search on Amazon for any of the titles and it will lead you to other movies of this type. I buy every one of these types that I can find.
Noxos International music also makes some DVD's based on music, but beautifully shot on location that relates to the music.

It's casting back 40 or 50 years I think, but do copies of the docos "Nature's Half Acre" and "Beaver Valley" still exist - I think they were made by Disney studios, and were the first wild-life films I saw when I was a little kid.
