View Full Version : Changing Password-Protected Gallery Thumbs?

Hello there, I'm new here. Just discovered this forum last night and have been soaking everything up. I've been using Smugmug for a while now but had no idea it was so customizable! I am completely HTML illiterate, but am trying to get things set up the way I want and I've made some progress since last night thanks to all the information here.
I'm sure I'll have lots of questions as I continue on, but I was wondering if it's possible to change the thumbnail that is shown when a gallery is password protected? It's just a minor detail, I know, but I'm really not crazy about that padlock image.
I am using this particular Smugmug account (I have two) as a proofing gallery for my photography business. I'm embarrassed to admit that I did nothing to personalize it at all until last night. If anyone has any thoughts on how to enhance things for my purposes, I'd love to hear about them. I am not using Smugmug's printing services; I use another lab. I wish it were possible to have an ordering form/shopping cart that just sent the order to me without using EZPrints. But I'm quite happy using the remainder of the services.
Thanks for any help you can give!

Hi Lisa, and welcome to the costomization world of smugmug. If you're new to CSS and all that, don't fret...there are good guru's here to help you with all your questions.
Before I attempt to answer you question, could you please either add your smugmug homepage link to your dgrin signature or add it to your post so that others can have a look at what you're doing and be better able to assist your costomization needs? Thanks. :D
So if I understand you right, you would like to get rid of the default padlock thumbnail that shows up when you have a password protected gallery. I believe all you have to do is find a pick in your gallery that you would like to use as the feature picture...and set it as the "feature picture".
Easy as that.
Good luck and have fun. I'm looking forward to seeing your new site and your pictures.

Oops, I totally forgot to add that! LOL! I think I just added it to my signature, but just in case: lisafrankelphotography.smugmug.com (http://lisafrankelphotography.smugmug.com)
Thanks so much for the reply, too. I didn't even think to try that. Since these are private client proofs, I don't know if I want to use one of them for the featured photo without their permission (although I doubt it would ever really be an issue). Maybe I could get around that by uploading a part of my logo to each proof gallery and using that as the featured pic.
Thank you so much -- I'm off to play again! :):
BTW, I'm sorry none of my photos are visible on the Smugmug gallery. I have a separate main website for my photography business (horrible right now -- I'm about a week from uploading my newly designed site!), but it's so crappy I'm embarrassed to show it :uhoh . Nonetheless, if anyone is interested, it's Lisa Frankel Photography. (http://www.lisafrankel.com) It will definitely be snazzier next week!
Thanks again,
Lisa

Oh my gosh, now I'm having fun! That worked perfectly, thank you again, Ryan!
Now I'm wondering what else I can do! :D I'm wondering if I can change the fonts of the gallery names? I'm off to do a search, but if anyone knows, I'd be most appreciative!
Woo-hoo! :clap

Hi Lisa - good idea uploading your logo pic to each private gallery for you to use as your thumbs.
I can't help you with much else in CSS - unless there are things on my website which you like....like the roll-over navigation bar.
Glad I could help, and I wish you all the luck with your site, your photos, and your business!

There is one way that you could do this that involves moving the text way off to the left or top and making the element have a picture as a background. I'll need to experiment a little but I think I could make it work. I'm blocked at work so there's not much I can do for the time being though.

Hi,
I was able to do it for galleries that directly inside a Category, but once i move the gallery inside a subcategory, the galleries are getting the SM default instead of mine.
This is what I have in my CSS, what am I doing wrong? :
.passwordcategory_ti,
.passwordalbum_ti {
background:url(http://xxxxx.smugmug.com/photos/337918568_XKmnk-Ti-3.jpg);
}
.passwordalbum_ti {
background: transparent url(
http://xxxxx.smugmug.com/photos/337918568_XKmnk-Ti-3.jpg) no-repeat;
width: 100px;
height: 100px;
}
