Big snake

This was swimming by about 40 feet out. It looked like his head was
almost two inches wide and his body was underwater not on top.
Never seen anything like it. Anyone have an idea what it is?

can't give you an ID, but we can probably rule out venomous snake from the look of the head.

Fresh or salt water ? Only salt in this midwestern lake is from the fishermen leaning over the side.:rofl
I saw no pits or slit eyes so I figured it wasn't venomous either. Sure was big.
