anyone recommend continuous light kit

for around $100 for portraits? what should I look for? what type of lights should I not get? am I wasting my time on continuous lights... my cam wont do slave .. d40... thanks....

I wouldn't wast my time on continuous lighting. Many are way hot, hence the name hot lights. You can fry your subjects. Plus they typically aren't bright enough to maintain a reasonable shutter speed.

If you want or need additional light save up for strobes.

what do you mean your cam wont do slave? why not? what do you mean by that? is it canon 40d

I have a d40 and a sb400.. I think the only way I could do a multi flash setup would be w/ a dummy flash or maybe something like alien bees?
