I was making my rounds on Friday collecting donations for the Red Cross. When I came upon this scene I had to stop and try to capture it.

As I look at the image I'm reminded that it appears pretty darn close to the natural setting as seen by the naked eye but as a photgraph I'm not sure if it "says" anything.

Does it say anything to you except "round file"?

Hi angelo

I think this shot has a lot of potential - it is very moody already.
I would start by straightening the horizon i.e. make the pier level. Then I would make it more contrasty and saturated. Possibly crop it a bit. See what you get.

when you crop, consider losing the bottom left firepit.

Angelo,
I agree with others:

crop the left bottom part
level the horizon
I would get rid of the volleyball net (patch tool works wonders:-)
I would also play with curves to see if stteping the curves can bring more drama to the clouds.
I would also play with LAB channels/curves to see what else you can get (it's purely amazing what LAB can do for the image like this)
Otherwise, as I said - very nice shot to begin with..:thumb

Cheers, homie!:1drink

I would also like to see what it would look like in black and white. A moody picture like this almost begs for it.

Just my 2 cents. But I think this shot does have potential.

thank you all. I have followed your suggestions and re-posted in "landscapes" (only one post per week allowed here).

I've not mastered curves yet but I've applied everything else you all suggested. I hope you'll take a look at the results.

Thanks again for the help.

Nice job. Can't even tell there was a vollyball net there.
