I uploaded a video and can't get it to play all the way through. I pause and let it fully load (green bar all the way across) but it hangs about halfway.

So I uploaded again (same file, different name) and it hangs even sooner.

I tried playing it at medium def and it still hangs.

I have a fast computer with plenty of memory (i7-860, 8GB RAM, etc.), a fast cable modem connection, and am using Firefox.

A friend tells me he has the same problem on his Mac.

Oddly, when I access it through ROKU on my LCD TV, it plays all the way through (and looks great).

Uploaded to Vimeo and YouTube, plays fine on both.

BobHi Bob, I played both videos in all the sizes, "Web · iPod/DVD · Mid-Def · Hi-Def · Auto" and the videos loaded and played all the way through for me.

Could you try clearing the Flash Cache and see if that helps?
That's done on Adobe's site here: http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager06.html

Look for your site and cdn.smugmug and clear those out only.

I deleted those two flash site references and tried to play the first video and it hung at 1:08.

I have asked a friend if she can view it on her Mac, and here's what she reports:

I’ve tried several times to watch the whole thing, and I can’t seem to do it. It opens in Quicktime on my Mac, and takes a while to buffer before it starts playing. But I can see that at a certain point that the download just stops. I’m wondering if the files might be too big somehow. It’s not a question of pausing and waiting— it simply will not download at all past a certain point for me. You might want to see if other people also experience difficulties. I should add that I download and stream enormous files all the time. I watch stuff on Netflix instant almost everyday as well as HD stuff on youtube, etc, with narry a problem, so I’m not sure what is amiss, unless it is maybe some kind of Mac bug . . .

Any ideas about how I can get this resolved?

I've got the same problem with several video which have been recently uploaded. I've tried hi-def, mid-def and web with the same result; at some point (despite the buffer bar looking full) the video stops and cannot continue. Bandwith shouldn't be an issue, doesn't work even when I try it at my workplace.

I tried clearing my flash cache and and allowing unlimited storage for my site, no change. Videos still cannot play entirely.

It plays OK for me on a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.4 & using either Chrome or Safari as the browser.

For others having this problem, Smug Mug Heroes were able to figure out that it was a problem with my custom domain name forwarding not being set up correctly.
