There are about 3 or 4 of these guys flying around my backyard lately. Anybody know what there called ?? :dunno
Pretty big about an 1 1/2 " in size and very green iridescent in the light and make a buzzing just a like a big big bumble bee :D

Pretty cool 'n' crunchy, Ben. I'm assuming that's a 105mm macro. Did you use a TC. :rofl :D

A 28-105 with macro setting. Cherished lens for personal reasons :thumb
no TC required, but I should of used a 5T or 6T as well, cornfused yet :lol

I believe their June Bugs... well I don't believe, my fiance believes, and he's a Biology major with a focus on animals, so we'll go with what he says.

Definetly a june bug. I used to catch them and tie a thread around one of thier legs and fly`m like a kite.Quite fun actually. They are strong flyers. Love the shots to. vibrant color.

We call them Christmas Beetles because they appear in the hot summer - right on our Christmas time - and have (like your describe) the iridescent Christmas decoration colour. Often heard of "June Bugs" and didn't know what they were - thanks for that one, and lovely photos too.

they are not june bugs -- june bugs are brown and black and have a head that is closer to the body not out like this one i still do not know the real name but JUNE BUG it ain't

Allen ya got it !!! Thanks for the link, interesting they don't list California as a habitat are. Can't say I've seen them here before either, wonder if the storms have anything to do with that? :dunno
